Another year another MOT

So took the Z3 to its yearly MOT

Passed!!!! Easy Peasy

but ive only done 2,100 miles this year :(

Few advisories
  • n/s/f brake pad wear sensor loose not connected to brake pad (that explains the warning light)
  • play in both front lower ball joints (full wishbone replacement in the new year)
  • all tyres wearing on edges (mad camberz yo!)

Awesome update!

So after @Daz3 kindly sold me his M50 manifold i headed down to the Zed Shed to get some help in fitting it.

SO after a very enjoyable bacon baguette and cup of tea we got cracking.

@Lee had recently fitted one to @Oldguysrule 2.8 so knew what he was doing and his help was epic

after a couple of hours of taking it slowly we got it all fitted up and working.

a brief moment of disappointment as the car was idling high, but only turned out to be a misaligned throttle cable.

the test drive even in the p****** rain was amazing, the car is so much more responsive and very very quick!

old manifold out

After that we plugged the car in, deleted some old error codes and topped up the brake fluid

next plans are to do a complete fluid change on the car as they are all overdue

so this weekend i'll be mostly draining the gearbox and engine oil along with a coolant flush and change

i also fitted an induction kit to @Oldguysrule car too so he can unleash the kraken

Very Nice! I wonder how much a difference would make on a 2.3L. I have a few M50 Manifolds in storage. I'd have to see if it is California emissions compliant and would need to improve the Airbox flow to make it more effective.

different engine as i think the 2.3 M52 (actually a 2.5) is a TUB variant so twin vanos so cant use this manifold

I've only done, 10 miles so I know the car isn't anywhere near what it could be

I’m looking forward to doing this, been toying with the idea for years!
Have you done the ECU and BBTB as well?

And does it sound different?

Can’t believe how many pipes are crammed under the manifold :nailbiting:

Nope bbtb and ecu are next up but going to see what this does on the dyno first.

Sounds a bit deeper and more noise at lower rpm. Getting more exhaust pops too

Nice, I like the sound of more pops especially after following @Lee Coupe about..snap crackle pop!

Ps if you keeping the ASC you can have the ASC body bored out to match the TB.

Small update.

Sourced a correct m50 fuel rail cover from eBay. The m52 one doesn’t fit and neither does the m50 without modification

The m50 needs the mounting posts cut down by half to make it fit.

Super happy with the engine bay now.

Also swapped back the m52 breather hose as I prefer the look of it and secured the eBay purge valve as it was now loose in the bay

Then treated everything with aerospace 303 to try and get the manifold to look in keeping with the rest of my plastics, it will need a few more coats
