Artic Silver 2.8 - OEM+ long term project

I’ve had a rusty wing for ages and finally found a good enough second hand panel.

Can I dislike this post on the grounds that you can find panels that are the same color as your car

Good work though!

And I used that Amber Bilt in the replacement bonnet cavities on my car.

So wanted to get the car lower so I bought some secondhand e36 compact springs

Long and the short of it , they don’t work. Stance looks crap.

Front looks great but the rear gap is too big.

Even with my eibach z3 springs on the back the rake is too extreme.

So after all that faffing I’ve gone back to my eibach z3 kit for now.

Little tip when doing shocks. Get yourself a pass through ratchet, so much easier

My intention today was to also swap the wishbones over as my lower ball joints have some slight play in them.

I can’t today as I need a 22m spanner for one of the balljoints

Instead I fitted my new powerflex anti roll bar bushes which took all of 5 minutes.

The old ones were shagged

Also replaced my passenger wing with a second hand one in better condition

Bet the roll bar bushes really changed the feel.

With the rear ride height on the zeds they tend to squat when you floor it so most off the shelf spring kits will always be higher on the rear. Best way to get a nice stance is with coilovers, which look great but ride hard.

I keep thinking about these.

I dont think it helps as I have Bilstein b4 which are stock height rather than koni yellows or b8s

Might just bite the bullet at some point and throw some coils on it

Do love the feel of shocks and springs though as they are way more compliant than coils

Have you tried removing the rear spring pads. I believe it’s something like 1.6 ratio so taking out a 10mm pad gives 16mm drop.

How did it drive with that set up?

I've found with coilovers there is still not enough adjustment on the rear to make it low. I'm pretty sure when I had the Eibach's on mine the rear was just as low, if not slightly lower than with the cheapo coilovers I have on now. I only have the springs fitted with no adjusters and I've even taken one spring pad out on the passenger side to even up the height. The only ones I've seen that go low are Apex springs but almost everyone I've read about that have fitted them say they are too low at the rear.

I had those Apex springs on the M, they looked amazing till you wanted to boot it =))

BC have changed the adjustment on the rear now so you can bury the rear wheels if you want to :D
