You have to be able to open the doors from inside and outside, however you do it.

So I need to fasten the rubber boots to the jacking points - hopefully they'll hold the bottom of the sills in place. I have some temporary side repeaters to fit other than that I'm waiting on door handles then it's MOT time and hopefully get to drive it soon.

The jacking point boots won't hold the bottom of the sills.

Old steel sills do slide on either side of the jacking point. But the new GRP sills don't wrap under the car that far so don't get that close to the jacking point boot.

You'd need to use screws or something along the bottom of the sill. I'm using plastic trim clip rivet things.

I need to fasten the bottom of the sills and fit door handles and then I think it's MOT and drive... of course I'll also need to sort insurance as I've also changed the model of the car so need to make sure that my current insurance company will still touch it.

What side grill is that?

I haven't changed the model name in the v5 yet. Still a registered as a Z3.

My MOT isn't due till september and don't plan on doing it much earlier.

Currently insured as a Z3 with modifications full body kit and fibreglass panels. £165

I'l probably put a Z3 badge on the back. It is, after all, a z3 with a body kit.

I will get the v5 changed one day.

I've insured mine as a bmw based 507 kit with performance direct (my old zed insurers). £260 a year with 20k current agreed value with review/value increase when finished. 3000 mile cover.

Tried Dan's insurance company as his is a roadworthy one and is currently driven and they wanted nearly £500.

Haven't changed the v5 yet as I'll need photos of before, during and after to apply.

Dan got his changed to BMW 507 tribute or esk.....I think 🤔.

I'm going to put 507 on the back....the z3 badge can stay on the old boot.

I'm out of mot now as it ran out last month. My deadline to have it finished to re mot passed by when other projects got on the way.

Think I'm about a month away.

Still wet sanding and buffing 🥴

I think I'll be sanding and huffing quite a lot more.. I need to get it finished by Silverstone festival, I've submitted the form and pictures to change the registration and need to MOT when I have door handles

Wet flatting is knackering....800 where I have orange peel, then 1200, then 2000, then course polishing compound. Going to leave fine compound till it's assembled.

I've enjoyed learning to spray but it can be bloody frustrating in equal measures. I'm about to spray the passenger door for the 3rd time. Got a couple of small bugs in the laquer coat yesterday and thought I'd be able to wet flat snd buff them out.....nope 😒...start again.

I also have the lower arch below the swage lines on the clamshell (both sides to do)......this will also be my 3rd attempt.

1st attempt....1st laquer coat too heavy in those sections and it dragged the silver metallic down. 2nd attempt....better laquer coats but got a couple of runs. Ended up burning through to the base coat when sanding.....so start again 😖

I can not paint silver. Not sure why, but I’ve never had any success. Other colours have been fine, just not silver.

Our insurance is £250 with agreed £25k value with Howden’s insurance

Had a result. Resigned myself to having to respray the door because of the bugs. Hit it again this morning with 800, 1200 and 2000 and managed to buff the bugs out so no need to re do.

Still the front wing bottoms to do but need to watch a few YouTube videos to get a rolled masking edge 1st 😂

Have to say, I'm loving the silver metallic. Was a bit apprehensive due to needing a drop coat before laquer......but many YouTube videos watched have helped 🤣🤣

Yeah. Those bugs are a pain the way they roll about in the paint instead of just standing there on tippy toes waiting for the paint to dry.

Silver is a good choice

Decided to go with my original zeds colour as I really like it. Goes really nicely with the ox blood seats....look a little darker than some of the other red zed seats I've seen. Planning on the same colour soft top that's lined up for fitting in July.....hence why I was asking what Pirans plans were with his one a few posts ago 😅

Ok, so you can't register the change from z3 to tribute 507 until it has an MOT.... back to waiting for door handles and endless sanding and polishing
