@Faheem have you ever had your injectors checked.? With 15-20 sec of rough idle you may have injectors that are leaking slightly so when you start the car there's excess fuel being burned of upon start up which could cause a rough idle until it clears its throat! What do you think @t-tony? JIM

It's a possibility Jim, I would expect it to smell very "rich" on start up though. It may do but I won't see it from cold.

Tony.

I agree @t-tony and for @Faheem to start the car get out to the rear it will have already started to clear up. It was just a thought considering that.changing the air filter made an improvement noticeable almost immediately. Keep poking away Faheem you'll get there. Will be interesting to see where the compression test leads us!! JIM

Looks pukka, my old van is getting rather tired and funnily enough was looking at a Polo as an old banger replacement for daily use, that's given me hope!

Just for the benefit of those who wonder why my Z4 is always dirty... 3 days / 200 miles at the moment does this to your car :yuck:

Cool Gaz, better not show that picture to my landrover, he just hates Polo's, mind you to date he's only destroyed one.

Great ride @GazHyde ! It's a Polo 9N...I used to have the 3 doors 1.9TDI a few years ago...I loved that car and with the big pump injector diesel at the front had a heavy nose but it spun the wheels even in 3rd gear, I miss the sudden overwhelming torque of the TDI, that car is a mule, I drove mine up to 190k km, when my little brother inherited it and drove it for another 50k.

600 miles in and I can't really fault it so far. Got 52mpg off the first tank, but that's improving the more I drive it. Gives it a range of around 450 miles for £45, as opposed to 290 off £60 in the Z4! I've driven the Z4 10 miles in the last 10 days, and I've already saved at least £70 in fuel costs...

mmmmmmm by that reckoning Gaz, if you didn't drive the 4 at all you'd save a fortune=))

So how long before you've covered the cost of the car, RFD and insurance mate? Then you'll really be saving.;)
Certainly sounds easier on the pocket and the Z becomes "special" again.
