From the pic, I can't see what the problem is with your gelcoat.

I had major issues with my indicators. I got the chrome Karmann Ghia ones with clear lenses. When offered up to the bodywork they pointed downwards. I think my mould differs from everyone else's. When Chris was doing Dan's mould, Dan provided the paintable Karmann ghia ones so I believe Chris did the mould to suit those...hence better fitting on later moulds.

I had to recess mine (sort of retro-mod look) to get them to angle correctly.

I tiger sealed 4 small 45° angled brackets on my grill surrounds (the type kitchen fitters use for angled base plinths). The mesh is held in place with small plates that fix through the angle brackets into the bodywork. I'm going to try and wrap the chrome work 😎
Brackets like this?

My kit was supplied in november 2023. My indicators wanted to point down too. I took tin snips and chopped them to fit.
My indicator housing is thick plated chrome. At £260 a pair and a 2 month wait, I didn't want to butcher them 😎

For my grilles I drilled a hole bottom and top centre, and used a metal tab on the rear to lock the grill in place against the rear clam.
the mesh is stuck to the rear of the frame by tiger seal

Those grilles are GRP. Is everything on the 507 kit plastic? Do you use GRP bumpers, and if so how do you get them plated, or do you?

Does the california kit have metal bumpers, grills etc?
Yes all brightwork is stainless. Part of the reason why they cost so bloody much to build!
Except the infill grille in the lower 'mouth', that is aluminium. In my case it has been welded the wrong way round, as the 'polished' side is where it's been welded. It will take me a few days to clean up the 'front' now. Luckily it's ali so easy to sand and polish!

But hey, what can you expect for your £500? (that was sarcasm BTW)

Neither side is polished, straight of the laser cutting machine. After it has been welded you can sand the front surface with a DA sander.
The back surface has to be clean for alloy welding so it would have had a sand before welding.

Don't the tabs make it wider than the hole in the bonnet?
Not sure who this question is aimed at. If you're talking about the small brackets I tiger sealed on my grill surrounds.....they slide in on the angle very easily.

Still working on it. :( I made some brackets:

Which I've tigersealed onto the bonnet, and then I'm fastening captive bolts to the surround:

then I'll just tiger seal the grill to the back of it with little flanges I made. No idea if it will hold but I wanted to crack on so we'll see.
I've just tigersealed round the back where the new body doesn't fit the roof seal, the indicator cowls onto the bonnet and the brackets to the bonnet, will let it set and then fasten the bits to the surround etc.
I thought the grill was stainless too.

Did you fit your grills yet? How'd you do it?

What is the grill mesh made of? I thought it was stainless steel. Mine looks like it's going rusty.
I’m sure my grille is stainless.
it’s been out in horrendous weather and still looks fine

Well that answered that question: No tigerseal isn't going to hold it on. Tightening the bolts on the captive bolts just pulled them off. back to the drawing board..

Grill surrounds I tried a chrome spray as an interim, but I'm hoping we can find someone to do them and the bumpers in stainless steel at some point
