My other car is a Smart Roadster with the same Mercedes bio-degradable wiring loom from the early 2000’s. Rotten wiring is becoming a problem for those as well. It seems to be particularly the brown ground wires that are failing first. If you rub the insulation between your fingers it crumbles...
Mine was the same when I bought my car. The inner cable was stuck and the was just bending not moving in and out to move the flap. You can get to it if you remove the radio and see it with a torch and small mirror. I used some penetrating oil, pushed it back in and operated the switch a few...

First time attending today (bought car January). Well organised, great location and met some really friendly people both today and at the Link Hotel last night. Will definitely go again.

M54 3.0 manifold swap (on 2.8), rebuilt DISA, new vac lines, PCV and re-mapped ECU. Goodridge brake hoses and one hardline because I couldn’t split a joint on one of the rear center hoses. Brake fluid flush.
A/C service and re-gas today. They took out 200g and put back the required 900g. It passed the pressure test and no idea when it was last done. Told to bring it back in two weeks and they will check for leaks.
