I would be interested to know how many enthusiasts actually use the tyre jack from the boot to lift their cars to swap pads/discs etc. I use the one on my S10 as my trolley jack doesn't extend high enough to get it up on the axle stands when fully extended but that's the only reason why.

I remember on the mercs at one time you popped a plastic cover on the side of the car and the a bar on the tyre jack would slide in the hole with 1 leg on the ground. I watched a guy change a tyre with one and there's no way i would want to be anyway near the underneath of the car as it was so unstable. It actually started bending at one point.

So if you're just using the tyre jack as intended, to change a flat tyre, then why would you need one if you have no spare?

Those enthusiasts that do work themselves generally will have axle stands and I'm sure quite a few have a trolley jack (or something other than the tyre jack) as it's much easier and more sturdy. I would imagine BMW intended owners to take the cars to the dealer to have the normal disc/pad changes done etc. I think that's what normal people do, we're not normal here are we??!!! :D

I would be interested to know how many "run of the mill" BMW owners have actually looked at the tool kit and how many have taken a wheel off their car to clean it :) I bet there is a very high percentage of people who do not swap out discs and pads themselves, they would pay someone else to do it as well as sticking the car through a car wash once in a while to clean it.

Big Slippy; How long have you owned you E92 M3? I'm curious as you just discovered the lack of jack. If it's your daily driver then I'm sure you'e not taking the wheels off and cleaning them each week and if you did I bet you have a decent jack to lift it so would have no need to even look to see if you had one in the boot, especially if you have no spare, what's the point?

Hornel; if your jack is the same as the one in your link then I hope you're not crawling under the car with nothing else supporting it, looks scary! :D

I think the Ms that have jacks must have either nicked 'em from somewhere or the original buyer was duped into paying extra for something that's not needed :)) Or maybe they were the skinflints who didn't want to splash out on a nice trolley jack? I'll let you decide :))

Only had this M3 since october, and never had the need to use the toolkit. Only had 2 previous punctures on others since 2007 and used the inflation kit, then to the tyre shop. I Just checked it in comparison to Z.
I can get my hands in behind the 'competition' wheels, much easier than std M3 wheels to clean. I agree though....no point.

Why dont we move on to these in the boot of ZM, the cross screams first aid kit, but where do they go?

Thanks

BS

So just to be clear here - what exactly do you have in an ///M boot (as standard of course) we wouldn't want to include anyone who has dared to break the mould - you rebel(s) you :-\

My E36 used to have one of these and they are not safe at all, used it to change a tyre once and it gave way, luckily I was no where near the car. Unlike the time before when the Corsa I was lowering came of a trolley jack and an axle stand and I was under the rear arch. Luckily I got my head out of the way in time and only came away with a broken collarbone #:-s

I wouldn't trust any jack that came with any car. Only a decent trolley jack and axle stands should be used especially if your going under the car.

I was up, although did have a nice long sleep in and then a soak in the swimming pool which was full of water!

If your M twitches all over the place to the point it is a problem when it's wet then maybe you have some issues there? Or is it just a confidence thing? ;)
