Cheers James

Well the outer barrels & bolts are back from the polishers - could not be happier

A quick snap to show you the difference between front mounting and reverse mounting the centers, this is 100% safe. Even some 19" BBS LM's come this way from the factory.

Not sure whether to do the same at the front to match though? the offset would be ET21 :?

Thanks for the comments, liam - took the day off so I got the tyres fitted this morning and onto the car, also dropped it onto the ground so we are good to go! (bar a few bits of cleaning :) )

Lovely looking wheels, I'll bet they look great on the Zed.

I love the fact that they appear to be the centre piece of your front room, makes it look like a right man house next to the big telly :D

Haha I wish Pete, the misses only put up with them because she knew they'd be gone shortly after!!!

Daz - around 12-15mm for the reverse mount and around another 3mm for the front to back center swap. They are sitting VERY aggressively at the moment due to the 10mm spacers still being fitted, i need to trial it out tomorrow and decide whether to ditch the spacers and buy some normal length wheels bolts!

I thought it would look a bit aggressive with them offsets \m/ I look forward to seeing it at the weekend and watch out for them tyres hitting the arch ;)

A few pics prior to silverstone classics, all clayed/polished/waxed. I've also tried a spray on sealant on the bare aluminum

The rears seem to have tucked in to the arches a bit more, if i get any rubbing I may get them rolled.

Ok so my wheels are looking pretty good after the refurb . I want to keep it this way so i'm planning on trying out a few different products and (for anyone interested) I will post results.

Wheel finish

Split rims - Outers are bare aluminium (no clearcoat), inners painted with aircraft grade primer/paint/clearcoat (very similar to a manufacturer's paint finish)

Products testing:

Car plan - Nano technology wheel seal and protect

Read about it here:

http://www.carplan.co.uk/index.cfm?category=68

Application

Very easy to apply, once the wheel is clean and dry spray on from 20cm~ away, cover entire surface. Leave to dry for 10-15mins and wipe off excess. You do get streaking so its essential to go around afterwards with a buffer.

Photo whilst its drying

Poorboys wheel sealant

Read about it here:

http://www.poorboysworld.co.uk/cgi-bin/ ... db_epid=13

Application

A gel like consistency which dries similar to wax. Coat wheel and allow to dry to a haze, buff off. On normal wheels I would expect it to take about 15-20mins per wheel, it does take a bit of elbow grease to remove. For me it took 2 hours to complete one wheel because it got into all the little cracks of the bolt heads etc.. Not ideal for split rims!!

Photo whilst drying

After cleaning both wheels up its safe to say the poorboys wheel sealant beads better.

My plan is to update the thread with how long the product lasts and how easy it is to remove brake dust..

My final choice is:

Gtechniq's C5 wheel armour

Read about it here:

http://gtechniq.com/shop/3s-for-cars/ex ... el-armour/

Its by far the most expensive product but hopefully worthwhile! , this 15ml pot is around £25!

Apparently it forms a chemical bond with the surface and a single application lasts up to one year! :D

a video of it beading 9 months on:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wD_sbYTuN9w

Application

Instructions can be found here:

http://gtechniq.com/shop/3s-for-cars/ex ... ctions.pdf

They advise protective gloves

Ok wheels came off today and I went through applying the gtechniq.

First off a top tip for anyone who likes to take pride in their wheels. Buy this:

Costs less than a tenner and saves the wheel from any scratches when removing/fitting.

First off I cleaned the wheels and polished the outer lips with autosol - Ready for the sealant!:

Then came the application, it is supplied with cotton pads so all you do is dip on the gtechniq and wipe around the surface. Make sure to wipe off any residue and get into all the cracks brake dust likes to settle.

Keep out of sunlight and avoid touching the surface whilst drying as it tends to haze up if aggitated.

application per wheel probably took 15-20 mins and was very easy.

Will update with longevity

Have you worn your wheels bolts out yet the amount of times they've been on and off :D I may have to invest in some of that poorboys wheel sealer as I'm planning to get the clearcoat taken off my splits :-bd good job as always!

Paul/Daz thanks for the comments!

Paul - hurry up and sell me your oil filter cap!

Just remembered i'd missed off the gtechniq so i've updated the post above, I'd consider this over the poorboys daz, it is far easier to apply and lasts up to 2 years (rather than 4-6 weeks). The poorboys leaves a pink residue and seaps into all the cracks then dries - took me about 2 hours just to apply to one wheel!
