Swamper i use Electrolysis for polishing dental appliances at my lab,in a smaller tank to yours, this process is the same as yours,I would think not only will you remove rust ect but also a layer of good metal from the piston cylinder bore, that will surely make them leak,if i leave something in to long it becomes thiner as the solution gets warmer and more charged, just a thought.pete

all rust has been removed now using the method but the metal is now black (as it should be after this) and now need to spend a few hours in coke to remove the coating.

Great results Wayne I've made a bucket too at work but not got anything to de rust yet but I'm sure it'll come in handy at some point. Are you having the calipers powder coated?

i was just going to spray them Daz....but may powder coat them now you suggested it ;)
for some reason the caliper thats in soak now isnt coming up as good.......will leave it a bit longer but may try vinegar if the coke isnt strong enough....its all a learning curve.
will let you know how i get on ;)

edit.....just checked on the caliper and dried it off....as you can see the rust has gone but its left a coating on it.

Hi Swamps, been watching this thread with interest. Looking at the results, I think you would be happier with the parts being sand blasted, It would leave a better finish. I think you will find the rust comes back through the paint aswell, with them as they are at the moment.

agreed Mike...but this is just a bit of an experiment to see what results can be achieved rather than just assuming that it works,.
im just in the process of switching the soak and im trying white vinegar..... seems to have a much better reaction ;)
