First modification! As usual BMW fitted a lightweight tall gear knob. I happen to have a Storm Motorwerks v1 gear knob which I took of my Z3. It's engraved with 5 gears, and the Z4 has six but I'm sure I'll remember. I will eventually buy the titanium version which I think will match the interior slightly better. But for now the need for smoother gear changes needs quenching, and as expected does exactly what it says on the tin :D

Side by side. The OEM one is about an inch taller.

When I bought the Z4 I was left in two minds about the brushed alloy dash & centre console trim. I had them in my first Z4, and I wasn't really that excited by it again. Looks out of place in an otherwise beautiful cabin.

The centre console still needs to be done, but I have to strip down most of the rear part of the cabin to get to it. I'll also be doing the door handles (once I've source a new drivers one) and also the spokes on the steering wheel which are scuffed.

I'm going to do a full write up on the vinyl wrapping, and my experiences doing it. Definitely not going to take it up professionally, and there are some rough bits where it was tricky. It was starting to get cold and dark and my motivation was waning when I got to the light switch surround (I'm going to do it again at some stage).

I'm not a big fan of carbon fibre but this I think looks pretty cool in place of the alloy.

Looks much better Gaz but I wouldn't be in a rush to do the centre console as it goes with the gear knob and clocks.

Although I like the carbon look I don't mind the brushed alloy finish too much, but the "chequered" type alloy finish is hideous.

Tony.

ps. The thing I don't like is the cold feel of the console so maybe wrapping it would improve on that.
