It's been a while since my last update, and the cruise control is still waiting to be fitted! Been driving the Zed more as it gives me chance to keep the mileage down on the TT what with not slogging it up to Oxford every day.
It had previously been laid up with a frustrating air-fuel mixture code issue. We thought it was the MAF as it ran ok unplugged for a bit, then lock down and it didn't get driven. Started it when lock down was easing for a quick blast and the same issue was back, so ordered a new Hella MAF which didn't fix it.
Booked in to a trusted garage mate of Lee's as we were busy in the shed and it needed an MOT so an opportunity to get it all sorted. Turned out to be the rocker cover gasket had perished which he picked up with a smoke test. That was changed and a fresh MOT ticket and back on the road. Just a "Nearside Front Anti-roll bar ball joint dust cover severely deteriorated (5.3.4 (b) (i))" advisory with a rear eating the inner edge (probably needs the rear trailing arm bushes sorting).
I've done a couple of little jobs, nothing too exciting.
Refitted my
AFE Power induction kit that had been sat in my parts shed too long. Had to do some prep work as they clearly don't use a quality coating on them in the factory.
Ready for the rattle can treatment after a coat of Hammerite Kurust
Big cone and heat shield, you can see the air feed that comes from behind the grill on the far right of the picture - so a moderately cold air feed. I have an additional scoop to fit which should drag more coolish air from the front. She sounds awesome though!
New
EBC Yellowstuff pads all round. It came back from my mates with Brembo or Pagid, whatever they were rubbish and stank on moderate braking. Still got a bit of squealing at low speed which I think is the crap Brembo/Pagid discs.
Fitted a
GROM BT3 Bluetooth Handsfree & Wireless Audio so I can stream music direct from my phone. Don't have any CD's so was having to drive with my Air Pods in, and they just weren't loud enough with the car at, ahem, "moderate" speeds.
Anyway this is the shizzle, works like a dream - just need to find somewhere for the microphone. Messaged them to find out which one and the guy replied with the correct one, he couldn't be more helpful. Plugs directly in to the wiring loom where the CD changer would be in the cubby behind the seats.
Finally, BMW like to produce quality parts for their quality vehicles. Sigh. Managed to pick up an almost mint replacement of the 'bay for £150.
Bumper needs to come off for various reasons so will swap it over in the next week or so.
