As the first body swap I’ve done as opposed to customising American cars, I found the kit went together very well.
there were a couple of occasions the rear tub wouldn’t fit properly because I hadn’t lined up the tabs under the car but once I spotted the error of my ways it was all good.
Although on the road for two years now I will still fettle a few areas, but it is a reasonably priced kit and great value for money.
making it all fit and work is the fun of the project

How do you get an MOT without a nearside mirror?

And from the photo the offside front grille looks miles bigger than the nearside. Is it the camera angle?

You only need two mirrors for a mot, one inside the car, one outside.
it’s just the angle of the photo probably as we were moving

I feel your pain, but I guess one thing we can say is that every one of the 507s will be unique. You've done great things with yours, I like what you're doing with the nose.
I can't leave things as they are. Must be some kind of OCD. Missus always nagging me "Why can't you just leave things as they are" she says.

You never know with the skills you pick up with this one perhaps the next one you build from scratch...
Next one? No. Never. Why would there be a next one. This one will keep me occupied forever. This stage is just getting the body on and drive it. Next year start looking at the inside. Year after that revisit all the bodywork. Pro paint job.

It'll never be finished.

I know but it gets to the stage where it's more maintenance and that loses interest. He says after building a kit car (moved on because it wouldn't go over the speed bumps at work), restored a triumph herald (ongoing) and now this -lots of plans for this but still half a mind on the next one - they're addictive

That's why I'll do it in stages. Between each stage the car will be drivable and I'll use it. So if (when) I loss interest in building I can just drive it. In otherwords there won't be an undrivable half finished 'thing' sat moldering in the garage for the next 20 years.

There's a few problems I could have done without though. There's also a load of extra work that I did that didn't really need doing.

I will admit that I've spent over a week faffing with the shape of the grill and I'm sick to the back teeth with it so ended up rushing the prep and paint of the surrounds and the silver paint is terrible. But it'll do till I get time to revisit it - or take it to a man to chrome wrap them or something.

The new bonet is looking very good, have you decided what chrome you will put on it ?

Thanks. To begin with I'll just paint bumpers etc silver. Eventually I'm wondering if they could be wrapped - chrome vinyl.

An MOT requires an O/S mirror (on the door or the wing) and 1 other, either N/S wing/door or interior.

Tony.

More drastic measures necessary.

Front bottom corner of wing lines up with sill.

Back bottom corner of front wing sticks out. A lot.

It sticks out so far you can see behind it so can't just grind it off. Need to do something else. So. .

The wing at this point is double skinned. Chopped a wedge out of the back

and pushed the inner and outer skins together and tacked with GRP.

Still work to do on the door gap but at least it doesn't stick out any more.

Keep up the good work and detailed updates, at least I know what is to expect when I get to ordering my kit.

By the way is better to order from Tribute or from CCW - maybe that should not be asked in a public forum !

I'm in the process of fixing this problem with my car. I have a different solution. I first saw it at Grassbanks.

As usual, I won't be spending £80 and 1 hour's labour. I'll be spending £1 and 80 hours' labour :)

Back in the early days of kit cars with ‘lifty’ roofs I saw a couple cars use a tapered pin into a cup, or plate, to locate the roof so the seals would work. No idea what the cars were, not a Nova as a mate had one and I looked.

I believe that you pay the same price. If you order from ClassicCoachWorks you will be provided after sales service such as advice on build, components required etc. Tribute are the designers and builders of the panels as their core business.

Also if you pop along to Basingstoke Festival of Transport or British Motor Show Farnborough Classic Coach Works will be there to form a relationship with.

There you go I answered on a public forum.

As Dave said - Tribute are the manufacturer of the kit. Classic Coachworks, on the the other hand, would (could) supply a donor car and build the whole thing and sell you a finished car. If I'm not mistaken that is CCW's core business and what they'd prefer to do.

Sorry. Just read this again. You mean the little chrome strip on top of the bonnet.
To be honest I don't know. Around the front surface of the bonnet bulge a pinstripe of chrome vinyl wrap. For the trim from the top of the bulge down to the front edge of the bonnet panel I might get an alu rod or bar and shape it and polish it up.

I was going to leave this till much later in the build but you've got my head working on it now. So sooner rather than later. Nice easy job for a hot day - to avoid mowing the lawn :) thanks.
