Finally got around to taking some pictures of the new reversing light bulbs. Out the back with all security lights off. Have to say they're a big improvement. @AleNod , @Nodzed .

Both sets of lights ordered, delivered and fitted - thanks @t-tony !

Internal boot light, gosh, isnt that white, plastic cover no longer gets hot. Result !

Reversing lights, look really bright, need a dark evening to really see how much brighter they are, but - another result !

A curious thing though; when you first start the car, the reversing lights give 4 little strobe like flashes. I thought it was just an internal capacitor charging up, but its done it again. Just me (have I forgot to clip an earth back on anywhere) / does this happen to anyone else ?

Pretty cool mind . . .

I don’t know if mine does that or not Alex, I’ll get my assistant to operate them tomorrow. They shouldn’t as they’re canbus compliant but it’s just the “self check” that causes that.

Tony.

ps. You haven’t left anything off, there’s nothing to leave off.

I’ve have this occasionally happen on the wife’s Cooper S when I changed the ‘side lights’ in the lower front bumper for some led canbus compliant ones. They certainly are brighter and the white light matches the hid headlamps, rather that than the dull yellow from the oem bulbs. I have a few more of them but couldn’t be arsed at the moment to switched them out to see if they were a bad batch. Hopefully something you missed.

I downloaded a video from the front door camera on Sunday night after getting home from the mandarin, it shows really well how bright they are and I was going to pull it off the phone onto the PC and put it on YouTube but I cant locate it on my phone for some reason.

On a dull, wet, miserable day with nothing else to do I thought I would make a start.

I’m hoping to finish one front and strip the other tomorrow and finish both fronts on Monday. Callipers only need cleaning, they’re in pretty good nick. Brake cleaner and a Brillo pad seems to work well.

Got the backplate cleaned and painted.
20220305_152824.jpg
And the disc hub painted.
20220305_155407.jpg
Pads have a lot of meat left, so will get re faced and go back after a coat of black paint.

20220305_165758.jpg

O/S calliper cleaned and degrease ready for painting tomorrow.

20220305_165940.jpg

The N/S one after some paint.
20220305_152840.jpg

And all painted and left in the curing oven (boiler room).

A bit of 2 steps forwards and one step back today.:(
I started by painting the O/S calliper,
20220306_145423.jpg

And between coats I painted the pads,
20220306_144007.jpg

Later, after the paint was dry enough I re faced the pads using a sheet of 80 grit paper on a flat surface.
20220306_145401.jpg

Next idea was a mistake, I gave the N/S calliper which had dried over night a coat of clear coat. Bad move as it reacted with the paint.
Anyway left it to dry and flatted it as best I could and used what remained of the red to re coat it.
Then I got both the carriers refitted.
20220306_144022.jpg
20220306_144041.jpg
20220306_145323.jpg

Finally I got the N/S/R disc cleaned and painted.
20220306_160237.jpg

And after 2 coats.
20220306_162535.jpg

So both callipers are inside for drying tonight.
20220306_194014.jpg

Slider pins, rubber guides, bleed screws etc. all cleaned ready for rebuilding tomorrow.
Another can of paint ordered for Tuesday, for the rear callipers. No way to get 4 callipers painted with 1 x 400 ml. can.

Tony.
