Spare time is usually spent walking the dog. And build my mates v8 supra (nearly finished) But soon all my time will be spent being a dad.
BMW 5 speed gearbox cut and mated to a Toyota auto bell housing. And yes it dose work.
And lots of spaghetti

So future plans for my car well dreams..... Spend as much time as i can doing track and drift days next year. And work on my driving skills and enjoy the car. I am starting to feel the car is lacking power especially at track days. It dose not scare me like it did. And adrenaline is fun 
I have looked at the S/C kits that are out there. And the only one that gets close to what i would want is the stage 2 ESS kit. And i just cant afford that. I have looked at building my own using an eston m114 charger. But well S/C z4s has been done. And i dont want to build something you could buy. So i am drawn to the Turbo option or a n62 swap? But i quite like the m54 and it is know to be strong and reliable. So i think i will be sticking with it.
I need to address the harmonic crank dampener and the oil pump issue. I have a stand alone ECU lined up and waiting i just need more cash!!!
Then start fabricating a turbo set up. But with a twist... I am planing something and when ever i discuss it everyone says its crazy wont work and that i am a fool. So thats good reason to give it a go in my book. The idea is to use a variable geometry turbo but rear mount i. It will go under the floor where the standard back box lives. It will have its own oil tank and pump. Lag to the turbo is not as bigger a problem as you would think. Neither is pipe work back to the engine. The pipe work will be extruded aluminum basically heat sink. So there is no need for an intercooler as the charge will be cooled in the pipe. If the system is set up correctly they can be very responsive. Its been done lots in the gud ol US of A on big V8s.
I want more power for track driving when revs are higher. The car is not slow off the line anyway but it would be nice to have power coming in from 2.5-3k RPM most turbo cars have relatively small displacement engines and rely on the turbo for power. So lag is a much bigger problem.
The main advantage to this system is that i wont be worrying about under bonnet space or temperatures. Heat build up and soak are things people dont think enough about. And as i have said you would have to be bonkers to try it

It's good to see someone using his varied skills to tackle and carry out some excellent work - I served an apprenticeship as a toolmaker and can do most mechanical jobs on my car, but things like paint spraying I consider to be an art and would never attempt to do a full car.

Have you ever considered spraying your motor with NOS? Fastest way to instant HP! JIM
I have and it may happen. But its not really what i am after. It may get me some cheap quick horses as a temporary measure.
I am open minded about what tracks. stuff fairly local to me in the south of England. I have only ever done days a Curbourgh. Its a nice little track and its cheap. But i am hopping to do some bigger tracks next year now i am a little more confident. I see you do a few I would like to say i would see you at one this year. But our baby is due early October and spare cash is a bit tight at the moment. But hopefully next year I will be doing more.
So i have done no work to mine at all this year really partly because i have been helping with the supra. Its had a full body respray all new suspension body loom and heltec ecu. To run a 4.0l lexus 1uz v8 we have built a hybrid BMW/Lexus manual box with a tilton clutch and virtually everything has either had to modified or custom made to work. Engine mounts plenum injectors PAS system oil filter cooling system crank case breather and catch tank to name a few. Its been a whole year in the making with lots of highs and many more lows. But we got it driving under its own power this weekend

very nice job, and an interesting read, is that a myford lathe in your workshop? the turbo idea seems strange, but i like your thinking, and reading about your work so far you are the man to make it work
It is indeed it was handed down to so to speak. I have a smart & brown lathe and a Bridgeport mill in the bigger workshop.

nice having machines at home, i have a small clark lathe, that earns its keep.
the more i think about the turbo plan, the more i like it, some years ago, i fitted a turbo kit to a z1000 kawasaki, and the heat it generated did cause issues, tho it did go very well, i have had thoughts on fitting a supercharger to my 2.8
I couldn't be without them now. I make a few quid but they save me loads and help so much with car stuff we do. The S/C idea is a good one would you buy a kit or have a go at building your own?
Turbos get really hot! As you know and easier to keep them cool on a bike!! It's honestly not a bad idea! Especially on a BMW with the engine set over and the steering coloumb in the way!!

Wish I had your talents and equipment both of you. That turbo on the Kawa must have been a screamer and just a beast in a straight line. Would love to either turbo or SC my 1.9 just don't have the experience. I have a turbo for my 65 Chev corvair 140 HP 4 single carb set up. Would love to get it installed. Wish you gents were closer! JIM
The S/C off of most Mercedes Benz cars from 2000s would be about the right size for 1.9 and really chap to buy.
All you need is a bracket to hold it a belt and a bit of pipe work. The difficult bit would be mapping the car. I would think if a plenum was mad right the supercharger could bolt straight on to the side of it. And you could even do some sort of laminova cooling in the plenum.

ive been looking at the cooper s supercharger, i did see an ebay listing for a kit to fit one, but i would like to have a go myself, as for the mapping, i would have to get that done for me.
a 1.9 with a blower on it would be quite a drive!!
