Yep - at least that was the case when I was invited to watch a procedure - but that was a few years ago. Might be different now.

Hey guys and gals I'm back and I decided to go ahead with the surgery I had it done last Thursday and haven't been allowed to use the comp for a week! I had lasek wavefront my eyes were -4 in the right and -3 in the left. Yes there was a burning smell but I haven't suffered any pain s:mrgreen I went back on Monday to have the bandage lenses removed and the woman asked what I could read on the board, I managed the third line down she said that was good and I should see good results. So after a few more days of rest I think my eyes are up to driving standard and they keep improving not bad considering I couldn't even read the eye chart before! So far I'm happy but will see how things pan out! Hope everyones ready for Christmas s:D

Ive heard you can smell your eye ball burning.. That true? :ymsick:
I didn't smell a thing just the ozone or whatever it was from the Laser. I am three years in and turned down the choice to do away with Glasses and now use them for close work. I decided to have the better long vision. I used to wear my glass all the time but as I have aged and the eyes get "tired" my near sight was moving further away anyway.

I was so scared I researched it and found out that the FDA (US Authority that sets the US standards) had the standards written by Waterloo University out side Toronto Then found that two of the committee worked for TLC The Laser Clinic. when I went over there I discovered that they only had the head Honcho insured for non Canadian residents so I had mine done by the same guy that did Tiger Woods. procedure for me was fine I used one of the artificial tears. (I must say though that before I went I heard of a number of "horror" stories as far as I was concerned.

I had little star clusters night driving for about 4 to 6 months as they warned me I would.

If your having something done don't even think about trying to get it done on the cheap in Medicine you get what you pay for! the best guys in any field know they are good and business comes to them. That does not mean that rubbish guys with big egos are easy to spot though.

I hope it went well!

In Hindsight
I agree, stay away from the high street clinics
You now have a lot more choice
Pay more for a highly recommended specialist/surgeon
Stay away from the conveyor belt industry

Went back for my 3 week check up this morning and the woman said my vision is just below 20/20 better than driving standard though. Things are still a bit blurry around the edges as I still have a bit of astigmatism. I'm happy with the results so far, my sight is not as good at night but I dont get as much glare as I did with contacts. :)

Hi Daz

Thats the downside of laser, bad night vision
Did you have Wavefront or Lasek
Wavefront is supposed to be better for night vision,
as it laser's precise area's of the eye, instead a flat burn

i find it very difficult in badly light rooms

I am really pleased for you :)

Thanks I had lasek wavefront it's not really bad but just not as good as daylight. I found when I wore contacts at night and they dried out my vision was worse then so overall better, although my vision is not as crisp as when I had glasses. There's so many factors and ifs and buts to take into consideration with laser surgery though which I must admit made me think if it would be worth it but I think it was and I'm happy.
