Try Halfrauds or a local motor factor shop but If you can't find something suitable pm me your addy and I will post you a spare one I have.
Thanks for your offer but a small section of the case round the hole had broken away so needed a longer screw slightly larger with a washer which I have obtained together with a new battery, so heres hoping that in due course we can get it working.

Not been able to do any more work on fob, but have managed to contact the previous owner who owned it for 4/5 years who said that he never had a fob so I would presume that the battery in the alarm under the bonnet is dead, how would one re charge or replace it.
Have purchased from Spursfan in a coupe a holder for one of the window screen sensors that was missing and fixed it into possition, so one little bit done.

To be honest with you the battery for my siren does not last long, if I disconnect the battery it will sound for about a minute, the alarm battery is charged from your main battery. I sure I still have a spare siren at home. I'm going home for a few days next weekend so I can see if it is possible to take apart.

Hi Althulas
Thanks for the offer, but please dont go to to much trouble just yet as I do not know if it is working or not, the main thing that I want to get working after all this time is the remote to get flashers working, I seem to think (might be wrong) that the alarm is for the movement sensors which can be a problem with the top open ?
THANKS
gEOFF

Do you have a little red led in one of your switch blanks Geoff .The led is also a switch and you press it to switch off the ultrasonics for when you alarm with the roof down.

Morning
I have been into my garage and tried to see what happens if I press either the red light or the black surround but nothing it is solid but the light does give a very short light when ignition is either turned on or off, so maybe that means that there is life in the alarm battery but I don't know how the alarm is turned on/off only with the small key that you use under the bonnet on alarm.

Have a read of these extracts from manual - they should explain sufficiently

Hi Jonco
Thanks for that info.
Under Optical Functional Display (where is this ?) it states that if the LED is pressed accidently thus switching off the interior surveillance etc. etc. do they mean the small red light if so mine is ridged ?
I was just wondering if the battery in the engine compartment/alarm is still charged as it has not been in use By fobs for 5/6 years.

The batteries on the sirens at the age they are now don't last long after their feed is cut. The siren will take its primary power from the cars battery the battery back up was to do with its Thatcham approving for insurance. It just meant if some one tried to steal it disconnected the battery would not silence the siren. You may find your led status light is different to the early ones i have one that can not be pressed but my car has no windscreen sensors. i imagine it was replaced by a microwave sensor that was a preffered option for a softtop as it doesn't trigger the same way as the ultasonic version.

The extracts I attached were from the Supplementary manual 11/97 print. If you have a later model there may be some minor differences as @Antm72 has suggested.
Optical Functional display is a fancy way of saying LED. On the version referred to in the extracts the LED incorporates a spring loaded button which when depressed sends a pulse signal to the control box and then returns to its original position. It is not uncommon for the button to fail and the spring flies out (been there got the tee shirt). If yours is rigid then it may well be the spring is missing.

Thanks Jonco all this info it is very, very helpful I will investigate my little red light further. It would seem that a few items in connection with the my alarm are either missing or not working which I think I need to try and get sorted before we try to re programme fob. Talking fob I sent the one back that I bought that was not suitable for the Z for a refund less postage.

Thanks Althulas I have added this to my Ebay watch list and from the pic of it I can see the spring. I will see if I can remove my light and check out the spring which has either brokem or got stuck.
