the old tree that we used to jump off outside the Mill into the river was cut down a few years ago
Yep, my Dad told me about that.
The owner of the Old Mill at the time was a chap called Jerry who did not have a license, so we payed 50p to become members of the 'Millers Club'....hence the under age drinking..:D
The Three Crowns just up the road from the Mill was a rough pub though.
When I was over last year we walked over the Town Path to get a pint (or two) at the Old Mill.

My Dad now lives opposite Lizzy Gardens with a great view from his windows in an apartment built on the site of the old hospital.
If there's one place I'd choose to settle in the UK it would be Salisbury. Lucky your dad.

Yep, I love it too, lots to see and do, great places to go out to eat and drink.
When I was over last year, with my Dutch buddy Rob, I took him to see a bit of culture....Salisbury Cathedral.
He walked around for a bit looking totally non plused than asked me where the bogs were because he needed a dump.
Bloody heathen.
Then we ended up in the Haunch Of Venison, one of the oldest pubs in the UK, so they say.

I drive through Salisbury every Friday on my way home to Cornwall and when I get home I tell Jill we should have a "weekend away" there.
I had to take a few days off last year and booked a few days in Glastonbury and what a disappointment. After that experience I'm a little apprehensive booking a break with no knowledge of what to expect. We like museums and old pubs, so @hard top and @Andy McDonnell what is there for us.

Morning @Jack Ratt, I do not know much about accommodation in Salisbury as I stay with family when I am over but a few years ago we did stay at the Old Mill, discussed above, as I was over with a group of Dutch friends and it was good then but looks even better now after its recent refurb. You can get a twin room B&B for about £100 a night and there was free off road parking which I would think they still have.
The best bit is you are not in the center of town but it is only a 10 min walk to get there over the Town Path through the meadows with views of the cathedral.

This pub in the city center is also a 'must visit'.
