first acts of the day is to check the weather report to see if i can take it to work.
The Z3 is even more fun in the wet and snow. Lesser numbers of people know that these days!!:)

Wow everybody, I haven’t owned one yet.
However, I am going to look at one later this week. There is a saying, something like, don’t buy the first one you see.
Me thinks, if the first one you see is a straight one, then why not.
I have been looking for one for ages, via autotrader, classic car websites, small ad’s, exchange and mart, forums, etc………
Any chance of some help. So far on this forum everyone has been so friendly and really helpful. So here goes………
What should I be looking for?
When I turn up to see the car I don‘t really want to look stupid! So I will want to lift the bonnet, where is the bonnet release?
Is there any other obvious releases that I should know about?
Tyre age I can research.
MOT history I can check.
What is the best vehicle check. AA, RAC, hpi…….etc……..
Thats it for now.

Thank you all in advance.

Tommo.

Where are you located @TommoOx ? Someone with experience of Z3s may be able to go looking with you.

Had BMWs for the last 32 years, always Ms apart from first one which was a wonderful Alpina kitted E28, a bit of a sleeper. The Z part of the journey began in 2004 with my first Z3 MC, owned it for 5 years until I purchased a E46 M3 (grandkids came along and I thought I needed extra seats - they only sat in the back about 4 times in 3 years I owned it!). The second Z3 MC (totally identical in all respects to the first apart from being 6 months younger), I didn't know this till after I purchased it in 2012 and checked the build spec of both cars.
So had the latest MC for over 9 years now, still think its truly unique vehicle the likes of which BMW will never build again because it was evolved in secret by engineers and didn't involve designers etc.

1998 2.8 bought in 2000 with 13,000 miles, currently with 130,000 miles of fun! It lives with a Golf GT-TDI, bought new in 2000 which has now covered 236,000 miles. Neither car has asked for much during this period, but have been given mechanical sympathy and an overdose of maintenance.

Since May 2021 . Just now starting to enjoy it , needed a valve cover gasket replaced , the wife loves it .
I have also discovered what sticky steering is . Hopefully with the cooler temps coming , it wont be much of an issue .

I've had a Z of one sort or another since 2009, so 12 years.

Mines 22 years old. I've had it around 15 years or so.

Most of that time it's been a daily driver. Commuting, shopping. Mostly short journeys.

It has its fair share of bugs. Mainly bodywork, car park chips etc. Central locking packed in a couple of years ago. Working from home now so the car is going to get a lot of TLC and bug fixing now that we don't need it every day.
