How will the Government of the day replace the billions they will lose from the lost revenue levied on petrol and diesel when it doesn't collect it anymore?

Tony.
I bet the treasury had a big collective intake of breath after this strategy was released. There will be a think tank workshop tomorrow. Can they tax shoe leather and shoe soles? =))

Reduce the need for employees to travel great distances, reward organisations for having decentralisation and regionalised offices, tax those that cut premises to reduce costs, have a properly integrated and subsidised transport system, use technology more.
No - Will never happen because that needs big grown up government. Instead they just push the cost on to the private sector, and you and me. If they'd managed some of this over recent decades we wouldn't have this problem today. Reap what you sow.

Don't they have electric motors on subs? Run off batteries they charge on the surface by diesel powered generators, or have they improved the technology these days?

Tony.
You must right mate, don't think an exhaust pipe would be too efficient under water

Any how. having worked in the Oil & Gas for many years, the golden years are over.
The deposits left are getting more difficult (read expensive) to get at.

In 2016, activity on the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS) has remained subdued, reflecting the province’s growing maturity, the relatively low oil prices, and high unit costs. Thus, the number of exploration wells drilled this year, 2017, may end up below the record-low 13 achieved in 2015.

Wouldn't mind but electric cars don't go far enough to even visit t-tony yet alone any of the EAC. What good is that. As for using public transport, can we go back to steam engines on the railways?

Just imagine how busy the AA, RAC and Green Flag are going to be rescuing motorists who have run out of wiggly amps.

They will collect replacement revenue through electric cars, two wheel machines - including cyclists? :D

Seems all this is targeted at cars.
No mention of all the waggons clogging up our roads.will they be electric.
C'mon Grumps wot you heard.

Nowt mate. They have some bio fuel wagons out there now through Tesco and Stobart but they are not popular. They have limited use as the tanks are small so the trucks are only able to do localish work. Waste of bloody time. We use diesel because it works! Simple really.

What about LPG?
Never hear anything about it in the UK.
All the city buses run on it over here and have done for years.

Eco friendly
LPG reduces greenhouse gas emissions. A car with 8.0 l/100km and 20.000 km annual produces 3860kg CO2, 16kg CO and 2.58kg HC while LPG only 2640kg CO2 (31.6% less), 11.21kg CO (30% less) and 1.87kg HC (Hydro Carbon, 27.5% less).

LPG has better combustion rate than petrol and diesel. Driving with LPG helps to extend the lifespan of vehicle’s engine. Autogas is also non-corrosive and without any additives, with a higher octane rating (102 – 108) than gasoline.

You will save on fuel if you are driving an LPG vehicle. It is generally around 45% cheaper than gasoline or diesel.

We have a FEW of those as well mate but again it's not favoured over here at all. Still hasn't scratched the surface with cars

The cynic in me wonders if this is less about going green and more about shifting away from our reliance on the Middle East oil producing countries. Not a bad thing in itself especially if we do ever get round to leaving the EU.
How much oil is there left in Texas Hardtop?

As far as the info goes, loads, but they keep it for themselves as they still import.

20 Billion Barrels of Oil Discovered in Mammoth Texas; Biggest Oil Discovery Ever in USA.

its the way forward.
Electric cars are cleaner and faster. The mileage range will increase, and so will the battery life. Also there will be a massive supply of virtual power from all of the plugged in cars that can be tapped into when the grid requires it.

I have had 13,680 solar panels put on our warehouse last year, By November I will have 1/2 MW of Tesla battery storage on our site as well, and the first 6 EV charging points that will store and use the solar PV generated power.
We will be helping to balance grid frequencies, so you lot can put your kettles on at 5:30pm and start your tea without thinking the lights will go off.
Once tariffs are adjusted so that the network operators can buy back stored electricity that is in our connected car batteries it will work out even cheaper.
It will take about another 15 years for the remaining majority of petrol/diesel cars to die and then thats it. Unless there is a massive scrapple scheme to end them sooner.

Now I just want to know how I can keep a petrol car running that I want to drive the length of the country, when there are no petrol selling stations anymore,, and I can only purchase a small barrel to store a minimum amount at home.

Is anyone seriously going to put back in the grid from their car? That will require a massive improvement in storage capacity and recharge time and confidence in the grid that that energy will be there when you want it back again.
