Easy to use bodywork sealant

I use to use AG and nothing else till i met with Russell O and now all i do is use the 3m products and the Swissvax Shield. If it rains i just use a quick detailer. I have just come back from a run with Mozza and car was ditched all i needed to do was rinse, snow foam, rinse, wash and towel dry i now have no need to polish the car for around 3 months
 
I used my d.a on Sara's silver Zafira today.
used the smaller waffle pad with Vss scratch and swirl remover.
After a short while the pad started to split and small bits of it were coming off.....so then I read the instructions on the vss,it says to apply a prep fluid to the applicator pad,is this right and if so what's the best prep fluid ?

I have never needed to apply anything other than the compounds to the pads. You could just try using a spray bottle with water to help lubricate the pad.
What pads were they ?

Their website says:

DA Application:

  1. Apply 4-5 drops to desired pad. Prime pad with Chemical Guys Pad Conditioner.
  2. Set DA machine to speed setting 5-6.
  3. Always work 2’ x 2’ section at a time.
  4. Using moderate pressure, work area in 2-3 passes until polish becomes clear.
  5. Follow with light pressure to finish. Remove residue with a clean microfiber towel.
  6. Follow by applying a coat of your favorite Chemical Guys wax or sealant.

@billz I used one of the pads that came with d.a,It's the same as @Antm72 .
I kept the two waffle pads and binned the others after reading on here they're too course. The car came up great though and I even used a clay bar for the first time :).
Got to do my van so I'll try spraying a bit of water on the pad.

You could try using a speed detailer it re activates the Vss if it drys right out @Bozzy .
Sounds likes its getting a tad dry you don't want wet though :thumbsup:
 
top tip as well, put a mark / line on your DA polshing pad or the head itself so as it spins you can see if its stalling / slowing down under too much pressure.

dont bother priming the pad with special primer, just prime the pad using a thin layer of whatever polish / sealant you are using.
 
You may find that they just ripped to bits due to catching the gaps between the panels. i had this the first time i ever tried Machine Polishing. Now i mask the gaps up and use the smaller pads and i do not have any issues at all

Did the van today as i wasn't at work,sprayed some quick detailer on the pad which worked great @Antm72 and the pad stayed in tact and spread the vss a bit further.
For some reason can still see swirl marks on the back doors :rolleyes: but not too fussed as it's all shiny :).
It's flippin hard work it took all day again like Sara's car. I take my hat off to people that do this for a living,I can fully understand why getting these jobs done by a pro costs so much.
Sorry no pics as it's getting dark and I have no strength left to take a pic :depressed:.

@Bozzy did you try different pads on the heavier scratches on the back doors. As far as I understand the VSS is for medium to light swirls but you need to use different pads for heavy and light swirls for best effect.

Hi @Dino D I just used the black waffle pads that came with the d.a.
Seems like i need to research a bit on what pads you need.

It may be the Vss isn't a harsh enough cut Steve if the van doors are bad its quite a mild cut it may just require a different grade of cut rather than it being a pad issue.:thumbsup:

After my first foray with the d.a I need some new pads as I assume they're a one use item ? Or can they be washed out and used again ?.
What would you recommend,where from,what size etc,and what product do you use for heavier scratches and swirls ?
Sorry for all the questions chaps I'm still learning :whistle:.

Not used it yet but went with what is recommended by chemical guys for the product:

How To Use:
Hand Application:
1. Work on cool surface.
2. Shake Well.
3. Always work 2’ x 2’ section at a time.
4. Using a polishing pad, work the VSS Scratch & Swirl Remover into the paintwork to remove swirls, scratches, and oxidation.
5. Remove excess residue using a premium microfiber towel to achieve a brilliant shine.
6. Follow by applying a coat of your favorite Chemical Guys wax or sealant.

DA Application:
1. Apply 4-5 drops to desired pad. Prime pad with Chemical Guys Pad Conditioner.
2. Set DA machine to speed setting 5-6.
3. Always work 2’ x 2’ section at a time.
4. Using moderate pressure, work area in 2-3 passes until polish becomes clear.
5. Follow with light pressure to finish. Remove residue with a clean microfiber towel.
6. Follow by applying a coat of your favorite Chemical Guys wax or sealant.

Rotary Application:
1. Apply 4-5 drops to desired pad.
2. Prime pad with Chemical Guys Pad Conditioner.
3. Set machine 1000-1500 RPMs to spread product.
4. Always work 2’ x 2’ section at a time. Using just the weight of the machine (no pressure) work area in 3-4 passes until polish becomes clear. For final pass adjust speed setting to between 1200-1800 RPMs. Work until optical clarity has been achieved.
5. Remove residue with a clean microfiber towel.
6. Follow by applying a coat of your favorite Chemical Guys wax or sealant.


For heavy scratches and swirls, use the Orange Hex-Logic buffing pad.
For medium scratches and swirls, use the Green Hex-Logic buffing pad.
For light scratches and swirls, use the White Hex-Logic buffing pad.
 
Bozzy I just wash mine and reuse but i never let the polish harden on the pad even when using them i brush them down to get the dried powder left behind off the pads
 
Forgot to say i wash them but only in the washer with no wash powder as it has detergent in it. Just bung them in on a 30 or so wash with no additives.

What pads do you use and where do you get them from ?.

I use the 3m pads from ultimate finish. They are around 3 or 4 inch and i use a 3 or 4 inch backing plate. Since i met up with Russell O who is a detailing expert on this site he recommended them and i now only use them. I also only use the 3m compounds as they are straight forward. Not cheap but excellent results
