Car was booked in on Thursday but yet again I've received a cancellation phone call from Sytner due to a world wide shortage of the necessary vanos bolts.

They told me they'd be in touch once they were back in stock :bashhead:

Called in at Sopers to book the 4 series in for a service today. While I was there I asked about the E89 Recall. I was told that you are put on a list of urgency, when they book you in for a week in advance, THEN they order the parts required for your car!
I'm booked in for the 19th. of Nov. What crap service.

Tony.

Received a call this week so mines booked in again with Sytner Sheffield for Monday 11th - this will be the third time following the two previous bookings they cancelled. They assured me that won't happen again so let's see - as you say not a great service experience but I suspect they don't care for the negligible sum of money they can claim back from BMW for doing the work.

My E89 is booked in tomorrow at Sopers, what I would like to ask anyone who has taken their car in for this, is, did the dealer try to tell you there were other issues needing attention?
Also, does the rocker cover need to come off as I have a new gasket which I'll leave in the car just in case.

Thank you.

Tony.

No other issues mentioned and if they need to take the rocker off they are responsible for a new gasket, make sure they supply and fit.

I assume the Vanos work was completed Ken, but now I have to take it back next Monday because the EM light is on. I'm not impressed at all. It's never been on before in the almost two and a half years I've had it. You could be sure if had been on when the mechanic drove it in it would have been the first thing on his job sheet.

I empathise Tony completely with the frustration and time wasted due to poor quality work. I would be very inteested to see how this develops as I had always thought that Sopers might be a "go to garage" should I need one.
I know they are very reasonable regarding spare parts and offer forum discounts but I would like to know a garage that can be relied upon.

Other than Sopers I only know of Marshalls in Grimsby (which is nearer for me).

Finally got to the finish line yesterday. Dropped it off in the morning and got a call mid afternoon. Apparently they found a trapped wire under the rocker cover which was throwing the EM light fault.
No issues on my way home or on a ride out I the sun today.
Don't know of its in my head or not but it does seem to have more spring in its step now.

Good news, Tony - doesnt matter if real or in your head, you still feel good about driving it, rather than not

Evening everyone, first post here. I've just bought a 2010 2.3 E89 about a month ago.

I haven't had a recall notice, does anyone know if 2010 builds are affected? I saw from another comment here, that 2011 were on the recall list. Should I ring a local BMW dealer or are they likely to just bat me away?

I did enter my VIN in the BMW recall page and on the MOT check page and no outstanding recalls apparently.

If it doesn't come up on the MOT system you can be pretty sure it's not one of the affected cars. A BMW dealer has nothing to gain by not doing it if it's needed. After all, they get paid by BMW for it. By all means give them a call or an email quoting your Vin. No.

Tony.
