why don't the UK have truck cabs like that (other than Chris Eubank's)
They don't have to live in them Pete, the way US drivers have to. They're away from home for weeks at a time in some cases. You look at the owner's name on the cab door and realise how far away from home these guys are, I,000s of miles in some cases, you just can't do that here.

Tony.

ps. A CEMEX concrete truck in Lincoln does not look like a CEMEX concrete truck in Orlando.

A maximum weight 6 axle truck can run at 44 tonnes in the U.K. giving a payload in excess of 30 tonnes depending on tare weight when empty. Most energy is required getting that much mass moving from a standstill or climbing steep gradients. Once rolling it only takes a small amount of energy to keep it going. Our stop-start traffic conditions will be a real test for a battery powered truck but the wide open spaces of the USA or mainland Europe could see them in service fairly soon on trunking work. The most noise then will probably be from the tyres.
Electric bikes at the TT can already lap at over 100 mph average but can only complete 1 lap which is plenty long enough to be bored sh""less. All you can hear is the rustling sound of the final drive chain which is surprisingly loud.

Saw a pair of those on the I75 last weekend in Florida. I wouldn't say they were "racing" but they were certainly keeping up with each other. The noise from those stack pipes was very loud especially when they using the exhaust brake strangely. They were easily keeping up with cars at above the 70 limit too.

Just ordered my new company car, downsized to a plugin hybrid petrol 200bhp Golf GTE and its going to save me a fortune on BIK tax (well until the government catches up and taxes the hell out of those too). First non diesel since 1989, saw the writing on the wall months ago and decided diesel was not the way forward if you drive a company car.
