Well a Blue 2.8 arrived today , as in Wheeler Dealer tradition, on a trailer!!!!

This seem a good idea when I saw it advertised, and what it had failed its MOT on didnt seem too daunting....

But ....not good !!!
Far more going on with it than I was led to believe :arghh:

So....initial plan of action.....go through it all and get a list of what needs doing to bring it up to a decent standard....and then decide if Its worth it.
Some of the problems are just labour hopefully, like removing the interior to get the carpets out.....a bit a wetness there judging by the musty smell........... but I think I better get Andy, Adrian and Robert on speed dial !!! As there are quite a few bits that I think I will need.
Better set up RealOem on the Ipad for this car too.

Engine looks clean, and cant see any evidence of any accident damage. Needs new sills, and possibly rear wings.....exhaust is noisy, but don't know where from yet.

Main concern is the engine management light ......although I suppose it could just be a sensor not working or disconnected??????

Roof would need to be replaced, and would get a blue one if I do.
Seats aren’t too bad, passenger seat works ok, drivers one goes back and forward but not up and down......sounds like the drive shaft is rattling and not connected??

The silver one wont be happy about being kept outside now.......but I have bought a storm cover to keep it dry=))

First thing I have to work out is how to get the bloody electric roof down......never had one before!!!!

To open roof - Unclip front handles, push the front of roof (by rear view mirror) up about 6 inches, then press the brake pedal and the down button. Ignition on

be ready to get out and ensure the window is folding nicely too

Sad that it's been allowed to get into that state, it's just like my first Z3 ,Topaz 2.8 facelift. Unlike many I prefer that shape and wish I'd never sold it. Good luck with the project.

Looks like a good project Malc, the main worry to me would be the seat belt anchorages, could be a corrosion problem. as for the MIL light, I would clear the code and see if it comes back. Mine comes on occasionally and I clear it and it stays off for 1,000 miles or so. Emissions are OK on the MOT so it is probably a dodgy sensor.

Wouldn't surprise me to find the tester has failed it for seatbelt mounting excessive corrosion because the outer sill cover is rotten Malc. Many inexperienced testers do not know enough about these cars.

That’s funny you should say that Tony. The seat belts are fixed to the seat aren’t they ???

The seat belt "buckle" /stalk is fixed to the seat frame Malc which is why the seat mountings become part of the seat belt test. The actual seatbelt reel itself is mounted higher up away from the sill.
