Anyone had any block paving done??

you need to hang fire with it snoops it can and does come up cheap.....we got a skip full for 10p a block and it had only been down for 3 month before they lifted it.
i did most of it my self but for some of it we got a guy in who only does this...and he charged £120 a day....but boy could he put that stuff down fast.
most of the time is spent doing the cuts..but you could get most of the stuff done your selves

Have you thought about looking at examples of paving that or imprinting that other people have had done locally?
If you are getting quotations I would ask to see work done, and not just done recently. Any problems will generally take a while to manifest themselves. It all looks good when it's new!

We are interested in the PIC but is it really slippy in the wet?? a few people are saying it is... I know what you're saying about looking at older work, can you believe one firm had pictures advertising his work and I thought "hang on a recognise that picture" it was from a trade magazine... :-o

p.s. I'm glad you did the same editing as me !!

imprinting can be bad......it may look ok at first but you have to stay on top of it and it really starts to look scruffy after a few years.....for me i'd go down the block route

You have to be watchful for Cowboys offering the PIC, Snoops, don't sign anything or pay out anything until you have seen an example of their work! It's a real minefield out there with several companies trying to make a fast buck, including those using famous brand names.
If going down the block paving route, ask for them to be laid on a lean mix base, this will harden over time and help resist subsidence & uneven settling. :-bd

good advice from EnthuZiaZT

snoops if your going to pay someone just get them to put the base and edging in...the pattern you can do your selves ...very easy...then just get them to come back and do the cuts

the cuts arnt too hard to do yourself. WInding pathways are a bit of a pain but a gentle sweep is fairly straight forwards. IIRC you can rent a stihl saw for about £40 a weekend + 40 for the disk and a wacker plate for about £60. Bit of an outlay but should still cost less than getting someone to do it.

it was the wrong colour put down by the council ..i think we got them all for £700 delivered

edit..as Dan says the tools to do it are cheap to rent but getting the base down right first time is the key......the scree has to be right and on a slight slope otherwise you get standing water

Why not consider gravel? Dumpy bags of pea gravel can be had quite cheap. Bit of weed fabric down and an inch or two of gravel. Just go for the pea gravel that builders merchants knock out for pipe bedding and aggregate it looks champion once its been washed by some rainfall.

You'll need a fountain, a wagon wheel and some stone lions to with your gravel drive though.

Bit too far I think when you consider the distance and the cost of haulage but thank you for looking ....

The area we are doing is 90m2 - I've actually sourced a previously used supplier who will give us a great price on the block and all other materials needed so we just need to find the right people to carry out the work.

We're just at that - are we sure what we want stage and stepping back to make sure. It's good to hear others experience though it helps...

We've just removed 8 ton of gravel from another area and it's all sitting in bags - it had been down 4 years but we never really took to it...
