Wheel liners in, not too bad but quite different on the two sides, and the car back on its wheels so I can work out the height of the fog lamp (must be 250mm from the ground)

I didn’t worry about the height of the fog light, I can’t imagine anyone would ever check.
Car looks like it sitting higher now, is that the reduced weight?

The height of the fog light should be an MOT fail I think (certainly an iva fail, not that we have to worry about that. Yes she does seem higher not sure if it's just that she hasn't settled after being in the air for a bit or if it's the reduced weight

I had originally bought individual fog and reversing lights to bolt underneath the bumper. Have now backtracked and ordered 2 reversing lights that I'll fit under the rear lights and use the single fog lamp that i already have somewhere under the bumper.

Just remember that a single rear fog light, aside from the height, has to be mounted from the centre of the vehicle to the Offside. And, contrary to what some may think there are MOT Testers who recognize a home built car and do check for height of lights, distance in from the sides and such. Just so you know.

Thanks Tony, my friend mots my cars/vans so I'll double check with him when I'm ready to install it 😀

If you are UK-based and are planning any foreign trips, you will need two foglights, or a centrally mounted one.

If you want the aethetic of two white lights, fit white lights, but fit a red bulb with a silver front half. I did this in my E46 indicators. The BMW MOT tester failed the car until I asked him what colour they flashed=)). He then had to pass the car and explain to his boss why he failed it, and it cost them some free pens and a baseball cap.

Hey Pingu, yep uk based but not planning any foreign trips (save those for the camper). I think aesthetically for me one central fog light would look right.....others may see it differently.

It should fail but I think it'd be quite difficult to install it incorrectly. The 250mm is the minimum distance from the ground. So more than 10 inches and in the centre or right if centre (ie not left of centre)

I think I can just make the 250 mm , otherwise we're looking at hanging it off the bumper. Although Pingu's comment about Europe may have just thrown the plans out

If you draw his attention to it he’ll definitely check!…..
And so he should. These measurements are there for good reason, not just because someone says so.

How high is the bumper off the ground?

My mot tester has come back with this. Z3 is after 1980 so his view is centre to offside for location. He's not aware of the 250mm requirement as he's said that most modern cars have their fog lamp in a cluster which is higher than 250mm off the ground.

The 250 is NO LOWER THAN 250. So can be higher but no lower. Ther is a max height but that would only apply to tall vehicles

I'm still weeks, maybe months away from actually doing anything but my head is already planning.

I'm going to get identical reversing and fog lights under the bumper - ie same body with different coloured lenses.

Depending on what side of the channel I find myself there'll be a switch in the boot to change the action and just swap the lenses. Simples.
