FaxZ I was actually planning to an e46 M3 back in September once I got 2 cars sold but my mate turned up at my house in a ex demo z4 like yours with only 4k miles on it and I had to have a zed. So I went onto the Northern Ireland dealerships looking for a mark 1 z4 and I missed a 2.5 with 24k miles, but the guy who was buying the z4 traded in the z3 so I ended up with this. I love my z3 its so smooth and easy to drive unlike the Civic type R I had which I only kept for 14 months.

That's a great story Hugo, the Civic is a very capable car, but would you describe the experience of it as 'Frantic'
I have always wanted a six cylinder Z3, but the time has never been quite right.

However they are now great value & there are some cherished examples out there. I actually prefer the look of the 3 to the 4, I think the 3 looks more charming, but driving the M Roadster...well that's another experience altogether :coolsteer)

The fn2 Civic ticks over at 2k rpm when its cold and the tick over gradually drops once it warms up so you have to be careful with the clutch especially reversing when its cold. Parts where scandless; £360 for a 02 sensor for the cat and £105 for a wheel bearing. I had a full JCW Cooper S, suspension, brakes, interior and Carbon Fibre parts and the Civic wouldn't compare for performance and handling.

I find the e86 z4 isn't as spacious and its much firmer on the road but the powerflex bushes in the z3 has help the handling.

The screw didn't go through the tyre so there was no puncture but when I was checking the size of the rear anti roll bar I noticed 3 dents on my passenger door. So I have had to make a list of things I need to do to get the z3 to my standard.

New rear bushes
Inner Door sill covers
passenger side panel replaced and painted, due to rust.
dents out of passenger door and bonnet
Drivers seat due to wear on the bolster or maybe a change to a red interior which I've found.
Possibly 19 inch alloys

Skype is your friend then but leave the wife and her mother alone anyway. Don't let your ZED pay the price!! JIM

Hi Hugo and welcome from me as well. We have a 3.0 and they are great fun.
Just a thought on your idea of 19" wheels, to get the same diameter/circumference you will have to fit probably 30 profile tyres which will make a very harsh ride as there is no give in the sidewalls at all so all suspension work is done by the springs and the whhels are very likely to get damaged on our brilliant roads!!

My mate sells alloys and he says I should go for 18s plus he has two different types of staggered 18" alloys in stock with tyres for £560-600.

Hi Gaz, does that mean you're selling your 18's ?[emoji16]
Possibly. I need to get enough money to refurb my style 78's first, and then buy a set of new rubbers for them so won't be any time soon with current cash flow issues :(

Thanks for the advice.

Maybe 17s are just fine. BMW UK on facebook selected my z3 as one of the best fan car back in November (the first photo I have posted on the slipway) with the 17" 5 spokes and they are in really good condition with plenty of tread on the tyres. This has been playing in the back of mind and it has stopped me from rushing into a larger size and different style of alloys. I would also like to keep it OEM.

I've got bigger issues to sort out before buying alloys any way.
