I had a trip up to just outside Banbury today where I found a Z3M on axle stands by the side of the road........
Actually it was Marks’ car (
@Althulas ) and he has let me use it to test the Z3M straps on. ( and he did buy a set from me today
The result is that it is possible to fit them, albeit with a bit of fiddling, and a minor mod to the filter canister top lug.
But as the BMW straps are not available, and if they were, the rear end has to be removed....not a bad trade off
I will write up an assembly guide, with some pictures, and if anyone wants a copy before deciding to purchase just PM me an email address and I will send you a copy so you know whats involved.
Mark helped me with the assembly today so please feel free to contact him to get his view.
(I will say that the underside of Marks’ car looks immaculate......all painted and new brake lines,
)
This is the canister lug that needs modifying....trimming out some of the webbingl
The lower strap lines up with the thread in the block ( new screw not fitted in the photo, but will be supplied)
This shows the clash where the lower hook nut on the strap fouls the lug webbing.
It just stops the canister locating correctly
While Marks cars does have the rear beam removed, which obviously gave me a lot more access , having fitted the main straps on a Z3 myself, which are the same fitting as the Z3M, I can say it will be tight, but with the filter canister removed, there is enough access to get in and fit the additional parts if the assembly is done in the correct order.
If anyone has any questions , please contact me.
Many thanks to Mark and Martin(
@Mnbrennan ) for all your help, without which, I would not have been able to do this Z3M version.
