New member @Matt Barnes is looking for helpful info re replacing out sill covers and treating corrosion on the inner sills please. Any and all information on products to remove the corrosion will be appreciated.

Deox crystals are great. This was only a light coating of surface rust from inactivity but was completely cleared overnight. The sill cover ends can be dipped into a bucket of the stuff - that’s where they are usually worst.

@DrWong can tell you about the Deox gel for inner seals. Not so keen on that personally.

Yep, I'll happily sing the praises of Deox gel (no affiliation etc) :)

If you want to get rid of the rust - as opposed to covering/converting it - I can't think of anything better. It dissolves just the bad stuff and leaves good metal behind. Great for deeply pitted areas like inner sill ends.

I took the inner sills back to bare metal with Deox gel, then painted with epoxy primer and then colour-coded top coat from rattle cans. It's holding up fine and the rust hasn't returned. Outers sills are shot though hahah
 
Big effort that by @DrWong Will take a lot of dedication to replicate however good Deox gel is.

My issue with the gel version is it can’t dry out. And you need to wash it off very thoroughly.

that's an amazing round up..thank you so much..your original pic looks identical to mine!... there is hope !
 
I used one of these on an angle grinder to srtip the worst of the rust off first

It is not as aggressive as a grinding disc and gets into most of the pits and hollows that the rust causes

then treated the whole area with rust converter then etch primer then liberally covered in waxoyl and the inside of the sill covers. If the rust goes beyond where the sill cover covers that area needs coating with the stone chip, the tetrosyl stuff is very similar to original

ps wear eye protection and strong gloves as bits of the wire wheel can snap off

If you look at my thread I used wire wheels on a angle grinder. Then used two types of acids. I use this approach as it was effective and I was working away from home so could not be around to keep applying the deox gel. Important that you use good PPE with these strong acids and a FFP3 mask is a must.
 
Interesting video. But you’ll be likely if your corrosion is that light.

Por-15 gets mixed reviews. Funnily enough I went back to look at a car I did with it 3 years ago this week. From what I could see the rust was creeping back through.

hmm interesting, mine looks pretty deep but I'm hoping it's rotten underseal, I won't know until I grind it back...thanks !
