Z3 Project / Rescue

Thanks for posting Cheddars, always good to see another Zed being returned to health. I would recommend a decent stainless exhaust especially if the car is a keeper. It will certainly improve the sound track of the six if nothing else! .All the best with the MOT.
Greatly appreciated

Whats the clearance like on that strut brace to the top of the engine?

Around 15mm, it's a little tight

Has a single exit 1.9 tailpipe on it also, 2.8 has a dual exit one.

You are 100% right, but it was advertised as fitting all and when questioned they said it would and I'm still learning about these cars so was a bit ignorant not to double check. They offered a refund if it didn't fit on its return, so I've only lost a bit of time.

Shouldn't need to double check, if they say it will fit then it should! At least you got a refund without any hassle.

I am arriving a bit late but the new exhaust you ordered is a 4 pot one: typically the 6 cylinders have twin tip (used to be a giveaway of BMW).

Also...did the old exhaust pipe have a bypass valve???

It is indeed a bypass valve, previous owner installed it but I think he said he couldn't get it to work. When I took the exhaust off the wires weren't even connected. Haven't had a proper look but will see if I can get it working.

Bypass valve sounds a lot of fun when you in the mood for it:

The whole exhaust is now on with new cat, so should pass emissions now, but you lot are going to hate me as I'm blanking off the bypass valve

...as I am unable to close it and don't think it'll pass an mot with it partially open. The sound is awesome, it pops and bangs slightly but once it gets through its mot then I'll treat it to a stainless system.

Also, think the brake discs are too far gone so will be renewing all four.

Guys, I've been thinking for the past week and I don't know how to put it but I will be putting the car up for sale, I'm so sorry :(

I am gutted and quite upset by the decision but I feel it's better for me and the car. It's for personal reasons but I've always wanted a car like this, I have enjoyed it so far but at this point in my life I will be selling it.

Sorry to here this but sometimes life gets in the way and circumstances mean things have to change.
I had to do the same with my first zed but it got replaced a good few years down the line with this one.

You know what's best for you so sell away but hopefully you'll go back to another soon!! I've enjoyed you journey so don't be a stranger, JIM

A real shame mate, but as the other guys have said maybe in the future another may happen along. You're still welcome to call and say hi in the Honda though.:)

Tony.

Needs must - do what suits you at this time - hopefully you'll get back into a Zed when the time is right - good luck with she sale!

That a real shame. I've enjoyed your thread and feel for you after the work you have done but at least it should help with the price.

I nearly had to sell my ///M but fortunately I had a turn in circumstances but prior to that I felt so gutted that I had to face selling up but at the end of the day you've got to do what you've got to do and look forward. I hope your circumstances change for the better real soon.

I saw it on eBay was quite surprised how nice it is ! You got to follow it through you come so far keep up the good work.

Sorry guys for messing you around, car is no longer for sale.

Think I just needed a couple of days away from it - built up loads of enthusiasm to carry on as I'm close to getting it done :)

Steady as she goes @Cheddars - good decision!!:)

Cheers guys :D

Slight update - when I 'test' drove the vehicle at a speed so slow to man, it can not be recorded, it had a couple of problems. It had a weird steering vibration which has gone (think it was belt slip in the end) and the brakes dont appear to need to be replaced, they are rusty but not as bad as I thought, and feel extremely tight on the pedal. So plan is to go around the long way to it's MOT (when the time comes), then see how it goes - if the new ones are needed then they are sat in the boot. The old ones have yellow stuff pads so would be nice to keep these for a while if I can.

Other than that I need to find out how to turn the ABS light off on these cars and tighten hand brake (I'm still learning ). And I have one more payment to go on my insurance before renewel, so a month should be enough time, lol.

Heres some better pics (that I used for the sale advert):
