I normally spend weekends working on the Z but have just taken this on as weekend project, its a full body restoration including all interior and underneath, its one owner and 48k, body is solid and the only rot is the 2 rear wheel arches, it has been sat in a garage for 32 years

Mate, that brings back some fond memories of my late brother Martin. He had a black Mk 2 1600E. Is that an 8 track player I spotted in the dash? With that "hump" housing the gauges in the middle of the dash it's either an E or a GT.

Tony.

Do you guys do the full restoration @Sean d ? Or just the bodywork?

I love my old Fords too. Please post a few pictures up as it progresses.

I'm guessing it's an E rather than GT with the wood dash.

"Old Fords never die, they just get faster" wasn't that the saying? May be true after a total refurb and a bag full of money :D

In my time with Mk 1/2 Escorts the saying was old Fords never die they just rust away. And that was was 30 years ago!

Haven't heard that phrase for a few years. I always thought it referred to the V4 Cologne engine for some strange reason. But googling it now it seems to variously refer to the Cortina itself or anything coming out of Dagenham. It seems to even be misappropriated to Escorts which weren't even built at Dagenham!

We only do the body work, it is in fact a 1600E, I am starting it on Saturday and will keep the pics coming, I will also get some when he finishes the project.

I always thought that the Dagenham Dustbin was the long fronted Zephyr, the top end Ford preceding the Granada and Consul

When we were newly wed we had a 1966 Mk1 Cortina GT, 2-door, in red. It was slightly lowered and had wider rims and looked terrific. I loved it and it went so well too. My fastest ever run from Scotland to the Home Counties was in that car. In all the years I have driven up and down the country I have never had a quicker journey than I did in that Cortina.

The car in your photos certainly has the 1600E badge on the C pillar. It should have a black grille as well as the tail panel, and Rostyle wheels, and I love them. Don't think I've ever seen a white one - I remember them in bronze and silver, but they must have had a whole range of colours. In fact I found a white one on the mk2 owners club web site.

My second car was a mk 2 1600 cortina,
Couldn't afford an E but did everything to make it look
Like one.
I remember fitting the dial pod which I got from the
Wreckers, oh I loved that car, great memories:):)

Me and Shirl had a MK.1 Consul (Granada) in very bright green, plastic tan interior and the V4 lump. A 6' bonnet over a 2' engine, and a lot of back lash in the Diff.=))

My 2nd car was an Escort 1300E in metallic purple. Still love that colour. The car was rotten in the floor and strut tops though :( sold it and bought a Maxi - terrible car
