Working on the M44 B19

Morning all and Happy Easter. The zed is my first beemer so that's my excuse for still making my way round an M44. I'm trying to fathom what this hose connects to on the intake that a previous owner has helpfully blocked with a bolt...thanks all

That is your disa valve.
Controls the length of the inlet track at various speeds and loads.
I'd be guessing the diaphragms are possibly away on it and it has been messed about with to stop a running fault.

this is where the 2 bits plug in .

I overhauled one of mine after it developed a fault then I done the other 2 I had all had the same problem .
I will find the link to the thread I did at the time and add it to this thread this may help you.
First thing I would try is reconnecting the hose and see how your engine runs.

that's brilliant Stevo thanks!..it did go into a BMW specialist a few years back for a service, I recall him saying he was struggling with emissions so wonder if he did it...I'll dig a bit deeper cheers !!!

so I reconnected the hose and fired her up, no noises, no rumbles, no clicking, revved her up, no noises, took her out for a spin and actually drove better! (might be my imagination!) I can only think whoever blocked it off was struggling to meet MoT emissions...
