Afternoon all

Decided as one of my first jobs to take the wobbly drivers side wing mirror.. to be fair i wish i hadn't bothered but still. I knew it was broken when i brought the car but hadn't quite expected it to be as bad..

Anyway

Door card off, mirror disconnected and un screwed … i have no more words other than to say it was mangled, binned it and ordered a replacement (apologies for the poor picture

I suspect this is the shape of things to come but im happy with that, will keep me busy..

Not uncommon sadly.

Yeah I got one like that where some muppet kicked one of mine off. Snapped the metal bit behind the mirror in half. You can find them on ebay but they fetch a fair price unfortunately and you cant tell what they are like inside either. I think there's a company called X8R, ah here you go

that make an aftermarket inner. STill pricey but you can pay that for a corroded inner. If the plastic shells are OK on yours it's an option

Thanks I'm considering that, however my OCD would have me buy 2 of them so the bases matched unless you can paint the x8r ones?

I’ve got a set of X8R ones on mine. They paint up great and don’t seize up like the OEM ones.
Very happy with them and I would highly recommend these over original ones if you have to replace them.

My Z had an unpainted X8R base on the passenger side when I bought it. The black looks fine against the Topaz so I’m not bothered about painting.

I think they’re a no-brainer when you consider their cost and the fact they don’t corrode. Just replace and forget:thumbsup:

You can buy the internal parts made from plastic, so you don’t have the same problem again. If you search eBay you should find them.

Have just bought one of these kits £99.99 which was delivered within 48hrs. Base yet to be sprayed with `plastic' primer. New rubber seal on order from dealer ~£6.50.
Contacted company as fold back action would not move - they said this sometimes happens and advised gripping it in vice to get first movement then it would get freer. Had to apply quite a bit of force to get it to move but it now works as expected. Would have thought they would have checked movement before despatch but otherwise it is well made.

I bought one of those, easy to fit and works a treat. can't say the same about my paint effort after though.
