Congratulations @Stevo7682 great pic and top location. I used to live in Girvan and once famously swam out to, around, and back from the Ailsa Craig, probably do me in to swim 100 yards now!

Wow, just had a quick look online and it came up with this :-

Ailsa Craig 16 kilometres (8+1⁄2 nautical miles) west of mainland Scotland.

And freezing blood cold!

Long time ago, I would have been 15 ish from memory, I was a very strong swimmer in those days (63 now so do not quite have the same energy levels!).

@MisterP007 that's a impressive feat :thumbsup::scorecard:

Ailsa Craig as you have said sits 8.5 miles offshore at its closest point the island is 99 hectares in size and just over 1100 ft ( 338 m ) at its highest point the island has one of the Firth of Clyde several light houses .
The island is a registered bird sanctuary and hosts several rarer species of bird
Olympic curling stones are quarried from the granite quarry on the island ( permits for this are rarely granted these days the only other quarry with this type of granite is Trefor quarry in Wales all proper curling stones globally come from these 2 quarries.

We stayed in St. Lucia some years ago at an adult only resort. There was an Irishman staying there who was an accomplished swimmer. He regularly swam across the bay, around the island in the bay and back to the resort. Lovely chap but I cannot recall his name. He did admonish me for mispronouncing Kirsty McColl's surname as McCall.
The local postman used deliver by Jetski. I like that job.

I am feeling faint just looking at the distance now (how times change eh?)

Beautiful picture and a beautiful place Stevo. Sailed over many times, very impressive. Love the whole area.
