When I started driving [many many years ago] I was told the tyres were my only connection between this world and the next.
And they're nigh on useless if your shock absorbers are properly worn out. In that state they're probably only touching the road 50% of the timeWhen I started driving [many many years ago] I was told the tyres were my only connection between this world and the next.
Agreed all round, it's down to the individual to check the vehicle prior to driving and highlight any faults, easier said than dine with some companies, however, that won't cut any ice with plod.Yes But so is the Transport Manager and the company
On one occasion a lot of the company personnel were involved in a Saturday morning meeting over safety.
The Transport Manager unknowingly to anyone had ats send a couple of fitters up to check while meeting in progress, and it was surprising how many cars/vans had tyre troubles.
One of the fitters vans was requiring 5 tyres out of the 6 on the Transit.
ats had a late finish sorting it all out.

Just the newness worn off, loads of school runs left in thatSince @t-tony has now retired I thought I would keep his horror story threads on the go firstly this morning guy came I in with an Audi space saver on with a puncture opened his boot and this is what was inside View attachment 97726 then this afternoon mot on a 2012 Punto and this was the passenger front tyreView attachment 97727
Before I retired I was a depot manager and introduced van inspection forms to be filled in weekly , and the times I would do a spot check and find tyre issues was unbelievable , and our guys had only to pop into ats to get them changed also ,I was really surprised recently when I removed the rear wheels , and saw how badly worn the tyres were on the insides, I could not see this with the wheels on without actually lying down.
So from now on its on knees to check them.
The tyre on the Punto throws a point about should a car be allowed to be driven away from a Test Station.
A couple of years before retiring I was party to an argument between our Plant Manager and one of the company owners---the front tyres on his 7 series were bald , he had tyres on order for a few weeks but they were still on Back Order ,and he insisted on using the car until they came in. My Plant Manager was pointing out that not only was it dangerous but as Transport Manager he was responsible.
It was also surprising how often we would find cars/vans with bald tyres---all the driver had to do was call in any ats who would sort matters out. This was still occurring after we had to complete a condition form each 2 weeks.
