@Shelly, she would have reversed straight into the front of my car as there was no way she was aware that she had put her car into reverse.

That's why I prefer manual gear boxes...

I suppose a baseball bat is out of the question.....

As for someone who sat at the lights clearly not paying attention - a quick beep on the horn. If that didn't work then a longer one. After that I suspect you have to assume that its an obstruction that isn't going to move, broken down or even driver taken ill - pass with caution.

As far as the ambulance is concerned, they are trained to wait at the lights behind as they are subject to the same law as you, although, I have before moved across the line to create space for them to pass but never crossed the junction. If they're in a real hurry they will pass on the wrong side forcing traffic to stop if its safe to do so. Am sure, if they're aware there's red light cameras that they wouldn't force/induce a driver to cross the red light.
It does't help though if they're sat there behind you with siren on - thats intimidation.
With police its even more difficult - How do you know they're not an armed response vehicle. I would hope that if you did end up with a ticket in such circumstances that if you had been forced/intimidated into breaking a red light that you would get the police support - they would't want the bad publicity of forcing an otherwise law abiding driver to break the law and then not support them - especially if its on video...

Waiting at the traffic lights one time, as you do, watching and waiting for them to change.
Lucky I had a colleague sat in the passenger seat, he punched me on the arm and said, the woman in front is in reverse (auto box)
I had room to pull out and up along side here, the car behind did the same and pulled up behind me.
She looked across and pointed at her forehead with her middle finger.
I motioned for her to lower her window, a few choice words were exchanged before the light went green.
You should have mooned while you passed her

I think Shelly that I would approach the vehicle driver asking if they need any help as the traffic lights have changed twice and every one is wondering if there is something amiss, if then you are faced with abuse then open the drivers door and hit them with the car jack witch you had sneakingly brought with you. =))

Thats an interesting situation. What would you do if on approaching a set of lights you hear and see a speeding ambulance coming up behind you. On moving out of the way to make room for it to pass you move past the lights which by this time have turned to Red and you go over and stop a foot further on. A week later you receive a summons for going over a red light.

This is what has happened to my Daughter.

Just to be serious for a moment (sorry!) but I'd have to stick to just using the horn.....getting out to remonstrate with another driver (male or female), however politely, just isn't worth the risk that they'll respond with aggression.
I would agree but what's to say the other driver won't get out and approach you with violence on his/her mind?
I find a tyre lever can be a good deterant!

There's so many scams going around inviting drivers to get out of their cars - if you think about getting out, engine off keys out and lock your car. Sounds like overkill but it might just mean you get to keep your wheels.
Can you fit a tyre lever behind the drivers seat?
Is it something you could lawfully have in your car - like a baseball bat? :ymdevil:

You need it at the side of your seat Ian or laid accross the front of it, many taxi drivers carry B/b bats or similar for protection but they're advised to hand money over if they get robbed. I suppose you could argue that a tyre lever is "car related" at a push.;)

Best is to wait things out as Shelly did, I think. Why aggravate the situation? It's only an extra minute or two and you will get where you're going. In America you'd likely be looking down the barrel of a Glock if you approach a car so stay put, it's not worth it!! JIM
