It's been a long wait, but today Bluebird had her new top fitted. I had made a right mess of the old one through over proofing. It was interesting to see how it's done. I decided it will never be done by me.
£300 supplied and fitted. Absolute bargain. Worth doing every 3 years at that price.
He did a great job too.

Faheem, you could travel to Swansea, have a night in a hotel and still be in front. Great value for money.

Said it many times on here but hey ho......
If you keep the roof clean and in good condition, it does not need proofing.
The fibers of the soft top contract when wet.

Sadly I didn't know that at the time as I wasn't part of this forum.

The sad part is that it looks no different to yours once fitted!

Paying an additional £300 for labour.... Wow.

That looks bloody awesome!! Great price
Gutted tho to far from me :(

Awesome job Phil, looks great mate. I only hoover mine these days unless there's bird s*** to get off. That gets left to dry first.

Tony.

That looks fantastic.

What do you mean by 'over-proofing'?

I'd like to go there when I need a new top but do you have to stay overnight in Swansea? After hearing about Cardiff on I'm wondering if £600 is a better deal just to avoid the place ;)

That's a gift at that money. I'd happily have a long day at it to save £300. It's my next job and aiming to do it during the winter. Could you tell me how far in advance you needed to book in?

That looks great. I wish i could get one for the Z4 for less than £750

Nice one Phil, looks great.

At this time of year 2-3 months plus.

Looks superb... Any issues with the fit? I think @gookah had a new one from Jack Smith, looked lovely but needed a few adjustments I seem to remember?

Like @Grumpy I would like to know the booking details.

Staying overnight in Swansea isn't the prison sentence it once was ;)

The suggestion was probably only because Swansea is so far for most people. Jack (I think he's actually Raymond) would get it done during the day normally.

There are some cheap and cheerful sea front hotels on the Oystermouth road which is walking distance from the trimmers. You'll get a stunning sea view if you're lucky. B&B for £25/30 is probably the going rate these days. I've used the Tudor Court many times. Full of contractors during the week. And revellers during the weekends.

There are more upmarket hotels but hey you're on a budget right? ;)

When I bought the car it came with some Renovo products for treating the roof. It may be that the stuff was past it's best, but I definitely put too much if the water proofer on, and it really spoiled the look and colour of the roof.

Hi @Grumpy, I heard him taking bookings while I was there yesterday. For a Saturday he was talking about the end of August. I am not sure about weekdays, but he did say he was having a 2 week holiday in June, so I would imagine you would be talking about July.

The fit looks really good. He told me to leave the roof up for a few days. I haven't washed the car or driven in the rain yet. Any issues and I will post them up.
