I had my first visit to the Zedshed West yesterday. Niall had put an open offer of help on the forum, and I snapped his hand off. During Bluebird's M.O.T. the tester had said that one of the shock absorbers was leaking, so I decided to change the lot. Niall, myself and Gary ( @mid life crisis ) were present.
Gary was replacing the seat bushes on his Zed, while Niall set about trying to teach me one end of a spanner from the other, not always succeeding. I tried to help as much as I could, and between us, well, nearly all Niall, we got the job done.
On inspection Niall thought there was nothing wrong with the shocks, and there was no sign of leakage, so I don't know what the examiner had seen. We had a great day together, me learning a fair bit and all of us talking b*******s for hours on end. A thoroughly enjoyable day. I would recommend more people to pay their local Zedshed a visit, as they all do a fantastic job. Niall and Gary, thank you for your help and patience.
I will return.

Well done guys, I'll have to make the effort to come and join in sometime if the invite is still open

Well said Phil, it's always a great day out. Even if you're knackered after it like i was yesterday.

Tony.

Talk about rabbits in headlights=))

Great work there

Have to pay a visit.

Did my suspension this weekend also at ZedShed Midlands with Tony.

You two doing the seat bushes.

Why on earth are you scrabbing about on your knees when there is a perfectly good table only 4ft away?

I guess your knees don't feel as old as mine!

Good day and a pleasure @PHILIP BAXTER, glad to help. Thanks for the cake too :D:D

OMG! That's a massive unit! Is that a commercial garage, by any chance?
The ZedSheds are brilliant and I applaud each and every one of you for giving your time, expertise and facilities so free;y and readily to us lesser experienced Zed owners. You are all stars! :scorecard:

Nope not a commercial garage, its a building on the site where my office is, the company I work for very kindly let me store my cars and kit there as its not really used by the business, which is very good of them. Makes for a good workshop though and means it provides a dry place to work on my car and offer some assistance to others.

As these cars get older and need more and more TLC, due ever rising costs for garages and a falling expertise of mechanics on these cars it is going to be down the owners to maintain them more and more, the problem is not necessarily that owners don't have the knowledge I think its more the case of facility, tools etc, some jobs just aren't easy on a drive on axle stands in the winter when most of us want to do major surgery on our cars. That makes what the Zed Shed boys (Lee and the southern boys and Tony and them Northerners) do so invaluable, I'll try to help out where I can with jobs I feel comfortable doing and can be completed in a day, and all are welcome.

Just wish people would stop taking photos of my bald spots :(=))=))
