The new beginning

Where was the rust Lee:( (in photo 2). Didn't see any rust on the Bucks cruise a few weeks ago:angelic:

I know it seems the rust was hidden under the wrap. Its one of the small panels below the grills.

She will be restored to her former glory. I have seen the prices of M's rise. So the plan is to fully restore the bodywork, powder coat the wheels and add a few touches to make her stand out. Makes sense to keep her pristine to match the low milage.

^ oh dear, @Lee is starting to sound like a ///Museum piece owner....

Just kidding, sensible idea as the values are rising fast. I remember when they weren't much more than what I bought my 2.8 for (albeit my 2.8 was already sorted with lots of mods and bits that I liked and a standard M would have needed all that work doing on top of the purchase price as).

Yours does drive like a new one but I think that is more to do with extensive maintenance you do rather than the number showing on the clocks, too many people look at that and think they getting a fresh car...

Just wondering if the mileage on the odometer is climbing while the rear wheels are smokin away on ///M cars and how many linear miles are actually on those cars if it is? JIM

That didn't make much sense to me mate, either you been drinking or you think us limey's drive in circles =))

@Lee you should buy an M44 to tinker with and stick your new engine in, keep the //M as the investment.

I've heard those (M44's) are going to be the next classic Z.. They have their own sub forums and everything!
Something about handling balance and keeping momentum etc etc.
Exporting them to Canada is a good business, they buy them in multiples over there...

What you need the common as muck garden variety 2.8 to play with. Plenty of upgrade parts as the engine is so widely used from Z through to 7 series.

Oh hang on @Lee has one already and in a cracking colour...

I remember reading Daz's build thread when I had my 2.8. Did he ever finish that supercharge?

Don't know...I love the black accents in the white and the silver.
The M could do with having no rear plate at all really...

Update:

Wrap has been removed. (M Silver)

All body work is pristine still (sigh of relief)

Front & rear bumper off to the paint shop

Mirrors off to the paint shop

Wheels are in the powder coaters (Satin black)

Brakes are all off for painting (Red)

All the body panels were inspected and dents removed to an A1 standard.

Expected Finish Middle of next week.

Will be lovely to see the finished result ;)
Can't wait :)

UPDATE

I picked the car up last night and first impressions were very good. The paint colour is beautiful such a deep and rich colour photos don't do it justice.

Things I have asked to be re done.

Drivers mirror - The primer has had an reaction to the paint

The inner bumper surface - Appears not to be rubbed down fully before painting.

She is going back in next Friday for some more finishing details.

Here's a sneaky peak.

I can sympathise with you on the paint work not being done right. When we had our z3 repainted it took around 3 goes. Apparently silver is one of the hardest coats to do
