Incredibly restricted as to what you can have. Heavily licensed and with background checks. Pretty much limited to shotguns. Auto and semi auto were banned after a massacre, then hand guns went after yet another massacre. Only guns you are likely to see in the UK are in the arms of a select few trained police officers, or criminals.

For a shot gun license we have to apply to the local police, give 2 references and submit an application form with payment of £50 (3 years ago) and then you get a visit from the police to further asses you,you have to have an approved gun cabinet thats bolted to the wall. If all go's well you then get the license which has be renewed every 5 years. For hand guns and rifles etc its a more rigorous process i believe. I bet you don't have to go through any of that in the U,S ?

@GazHyde once you have a shot gun license you can buy anything 12 bore, auto, semi auto etc and it's surprising how many people have them (legally)

I was under the opinion that you couldn't own a fully automatic weapon or a pump action one on a shot gun license, only single shot side by side or over and under ones?

Your right re fully auto @t-tony thinking back i've never seen a fully auto shot gun  but you certainly can own a pump action,a chap at the gun club had one but they're no good for shooting clays as by the time you've 'pumped' it for the 2nd shot the clay has landed in the grass :meh:

Here are a few of my toys, and you know what, I have never hurt anyone with them! Our new government is trying their best to take them away.

They're currently trying to get concealed weapons allowed at UCF in Orlando. That doesn't make any sense to me as an Englishman but maybe it does to an American.

Tony.

The only weapons I have are several air weapons, .22 and .177. Ok, these wouldn't be deadly but if your were caught breaking into my house I'm fairly sure a round from my .22 pistol in the face would probably encourage you that it wasn't a good idea.

Tony.

ps. Yes, it's a single shot but it lives within arms reach with one up the spout all the time.;)

I'm sure we are all thought of as Cowboys around the world, but most of the people of United States, hunt, shoot target and have guns for protection. We are law abiding people. The City's that have drug problems are where the problems are. In my part of Pennsylvania, we keep our houses unlocked except at night, my garage is never locked as well as all the cars have the keys in them , we have relativity no crime, except when city people come to our area. I have studied Martial Arts for many year and I want to be able to protected my family, but "A man also has to know his limitations" ( my favorite quote from Clint Eastwood) The police are 20 min away and there are always bad guys bigger and stronger than I, so sometimes in some places I carry a gun. The politicians want to turn the US into Canada, UK or Australia and take away that freedom we have of protecting ourselves. I don't want to turn this into a gun debate, but I can relate it to our beloved Z3. We want the freedom to drive the cars that we want, when we want, we obey the laws, our cars are able to kill and do kill more people than guns. Do you want someone to take that away from you, because others abuse it? All the time they are being driven or flown around any place they want or protected by armed guards. To me and others in the US it's about freedom and we are loosing it! As for guns, I am much more deadly with my Bow, I have killed 28 Bucks with it and it's silent! My family eats everything I kill.
