Yesterday I went to pick my grandson up from first school :p
We got into the car , the lollipop lady then put her stick up so the children could cross the road .......... :)
Naturally I stopped :)
But a car the other side from me must of thought yeah I can reverse up the pavement instead of going to the roundabout about a 2 mins drive away :(
I thought what is she doing with all these children around :(
The next minute you heard a piercing scream so loud I can still hear it now ......... :(
She had reversed into a little boy about 5 years old ( my grandson knows his brother) :(
The mother and friends were shouting go forward go forward but in panic ( I can only guess ) she reversed even more :(
It's still playing on my mind ...........
The poor little boy and his family , ..........
What a silly think to do reverse near a school and up a pavement :(

This is horrible to have witnessed, hope he's ok.

This happens occasionally at our kids school, very dangerous and coupled with a narrow road sometimes people put a wheel over the kerb to get by.
There is always someone in a big rush.

They also don't realize that big wing mirrors come over onto the pavement ready to clip a head. I drill it in the kids heads to walk on the inside but with kids there's always a risk.

What I don't understand is why the councils don't raise the kerbs very high outside schools like this. They love littering the roads with all sorts of street 'furniture' and making carparks hard to navigate with kerbs and bollards. However outside our school is just a short section of railings and bollards. The narrowest section of pavement is also the place where the kerbs is at it's lowest.
We take extra care but it's an accident waiting, must write to council...

Been doing the school run for 16 years when I get chance as it's nice for Dad to pick one or more up once in a while. Without exception some very strange motoring behaviours and occasionally some dangerous ones with little regard for youngsters who are not yet road savvy. Very sad to hear this one @Shelly. Reversing up a pavement should see a good prosecution I should imagine. Hope the lad is OK?

Hope he is ok.
Outside our local primary that have put a yellow zig-zag exclusion zone for the full length of the school's road perimeter - works well.
However, at the senior school further away it is total chaos and the worst culprits are the 4x4's with `drivers' who have not got a clue how to reverse and park.

I used to live in a village with a 30mph section of country road running through it - classic rat run and an accident waiting to happen.

When I took my 2 kids down to the school bus stop in the morning I would wear black trousers, a white shirt and black baseball cap (occasionally I'd wear the hi vis jacket from my car). I'd then stand on the edge of the road next to the bus stop with my arms crossed and stare at the cars as they approached. It was a straight road so I could be seen for quite some distance in either direction.

For some reason beyond me drivers would mistake me for someone 'official' and would stand on their brake pedals, then pootle past as if they were doing 30 the whole time. Usually they would then realise and shout abuse. I had so much fun doing this.

The worst offenders were the mums driving a full MPV load of my kids to the same school my kids were taking the bus to. School runs are just plain bad news all round.

These days many mums are on a timescale to drop kids at school and still get to work on time. No excuse for knocking a child down but most people are under a lot of pressure to fit a lot into a short time.

Tony.

ps. I don't have kids of school age any more but I see them every morning.

The incident will probably be in the mind of the driver for a very long time.
You would certainly hope so David.

We hope this woman goes to court and the Judge takes her licence away as she should not be driving! People like that have no thought for those around them or other road users.
