Sydney Hell Red

Well, took out the aftermarket radio today and replaced it with a BMW cassette unit. Looks authentic at last. The wires were a mess and I decided not to rewire then damn thing today. So... my list is now:
2. Rewire original BMW radio plug.
3. Replace vandalised driver's side door mirror.
4. Replace vandalised fuel cover.
5. Fix seat bushes.
7. Replace rear dampers with Bilsteins to match the front Bilsteins.
9. Respray boot lid (top coat is peeling).

Curious as it should be a standard wiring harness behind the stereo. What stereo did you have it in it before?

Here's a pic of what the after market installer had done... repairable but nevertheless an hour or so of painstaking work for me... still, it looks OK on the outside now.

Ahhh... now where did I store my cassette collection?

Well, it did take little more than an hour to strip the 'standard' wire plug, strip and fit new butt joins to join the cut wires, and fit the Rover (originally sold to me as BMW) CD player.

The black square on the CD player fascia is my attempt to hide the embossed Rover badge on the fascia.

Despite the fact that I didn't really know what I was doing - it works! The CD Player doesn't fit as neatly as the BMW cassette player I bought off eBay but I do not have the security code for the cassette player (yet) so the CD player will have to do.

So what's left?

5. Fix seat bushes.

9. Respray boot lid (top coat is peeling).

Well, I was made an offer I could not refuse and let this baby go today. I guess it stood out from the typical silver automatic Z3 crowd in Sydney. See you next time a Z3 is in my garage, although that might be a while since I've got my eye on a very low KM 1992 MX-5 (it'll be my third if I pick it up). If I stay with BMW roadsters (my daily drive is a BMW E90) it'll be a Z4 next... bye.

Sorry to read that but at least you got a good deal. You are still welcome to stick around though, even without the Z.
