We’ve got two days worth of updates tonight. First job I started on was the gearbox indent pins and some other little bits on the box.

old cap removed

insides removed
2235E1B3-FB97-4019-8128-929C4B13B383.jpeg

New bush and pin fitted.
FB17BCA9-CFA1-488B-9AFD-8347D90E5620.jpeg

new cap to seal it all in.
99E1F9A9-0617-44EA-9796-C5C8688E3BEE.jpeg

then it was rinse repeat for the other two.
24DA3588-A10B-4D2D-8F7A-C2BF1AEDEF04.jpeg

next onto the tough ones. Reverse and 5th.

cap removed.

Old bush broken out.

new bush ready to go in.

then repeat for the 5th gear. Normally the pin that gives me the most issues. This pin is always stuck.

full house. All changed.
6CE377AB-815A-4B83-A63A-1B6397D2BF94.jpeg

be rude at this point not to fill with fresh fluid.

Gearbox then got a new clutch fork with pivot pin and a pilot bearing.

Next unwrapped some of the powder costed items. Really impressed how the old springs came up. Should be good for many more years.

Whilst we had the beam out we fitted the new beam bushes.
E13E15D6-EB8D-4E40-ABDB-2B9DDA8431CD.jpeg

next the diff needed a little freshen up. New bush with speedo sensor bracket.

fitting the OE bush is very easy I simply squash it in the vice.

Once the diff was looking fancy I then fitted the new clutch and flywheel.

OE LUK kit.

flywheel on and torqued. Then clutch disc aligned.

Now ready to rock.

Shortly after the gearbox was also fitted. We decided to get ahead and refit all the front end with the new roll bars. This then just leaves the rear subframe to build tomorrow.

fingers crossed she’s finished tomorrow.

Getting a little jealous watching all these Z3s getting so much attention, don’t know how you, Gaz and Trev can stand working in all this crap weather of late and in those cramped conditions, maybe it’s because your using the old army buddy system. Now that would be something to get on film.

Huge update. The last two days have been mega, she’s now running and handles sweet.

First up was rebuilding the trailing arms, this was far easier then disassembly that’s for sure.
B1068689-61FA-4B73-B28E-932C9851569F.jpeg

new dust guards shields also fitted.

shortly after the whole subframe was assembled.

Close up. Looking like new again.
473C4453-1790-4173-AE0F-67935CBD6758.jpeg

It’s nice at this stage because everything goes together quickly. Within an hour the subframe was then fitted and torqued back in place.

Beam bushes now sat up tall like they should be.

Springs also looking a lot better. We also fitted a 10mm spring pad and new top pad these are pence from BMW so well worth refreshing.
91487A92-100A-4689-B0BB-3AC76A80644E.jpeg

Next up we gave the brakes a clean up and started fitting the rest of the hardware.

DA91384D-D28A-4287-B4A0-3B288149B2BE.jpeg

some more shinny bling going on. Shame the under tray covers it.
5A631208-9204-4537-8A06-F0176C244610.jpeg

fresh roll bar bushes all round to flatten her in the corners.
21435593-8577-45E5-944B-93FA7BC41BB9.jpeg

Couple of rear under shots showing the bling.

Then when we went to fit the last section of the exhaust we spotted some road debris tangled up in the cat shield. After speaking to Swamper he had a incident with a wratchet strap on the motorway. Took a good 10mins to dislodge it.

Wheels down and test drive time. Had to be an extended test drive in order for the oil to warm.
060E7223-3D26-4451-9276-D049CBB5D3DF.jpeg

Can see the bum sitting slightly more pert. Test drive was good, pulls really strong, now changes gear so much sharper, clutch is also nice and light she’s also very flat in the corners.
3DB97B33-EA62-4C0F-90CE-966290350E6E.jpeg

she’s now tucked up in the warm garage waiting for collection home.

Another M ready for summer!

Top work old bean...😎
She looks mint...!
The slight rise on the rear and with all the new bushes I Feel is really going to add to the feel of her again and remove that crashie ride you can get with the crap roads. Feel like setting off now to pick her up...
Thanks For all the work you and your dad did..... Genuinely appreciated👍
See you tomorrow...!
