Hi all,

So, I picked this up...

It’s a 2014 28i M Sport in Alpine White with Canberra Beige Leather and 38k miles on the clock. It has a fair few optional extra’s including 19” M326 Wheels, Extended Leather, Comfort Pack, Extended Lighting,Fineline Anthracite Wood, Heated Seats, Professional Media Package and the 8 speed ZF Sports Auto gearbox.

I initially went to view the car with 4 main questions...

1)Is it big enough inside?

2)Is it fast enough (only a 2.0 4 cylinder)?

3)Do I like the leather / wood?

4)Do I want an auto?

Luckily it was a massive yes to all 3! I’m 6ft 1” and quite broad but I was pleasantly surprised with how comfortable I was with only a couple of adjustments to the seat. Thankfully it’s the 28i so depending on where you read it’s 0-60 time is around 5.3 to 5.5 seconds, which makes it plenty quick enough but what really impresses me is it doesn’t feel like a 2.0 or turbocharged. It just feels like a powerful engine (which can, and probably will, be remapped for even more power!). I got in and immediately loved the interior, I’m a big fan of unusual combo’s, I’ve had plenty of Black leather interiors but I’ve always liked different colours of leather but with black plastics. I’ve never had an Auto before, I’ve driven plenty and I’m always pleased to get back in the manual... this is different though! The gearbox is fantastic!

I’m circa 3k miles in now and still feel the same way about it so I’m pleased with my decision!

It didn’t stay untouched for too long!

First mod was a stubby aerial and debadge on the rear...

Then some the new numberplates to get rid of the Big Motoring World ones!

I then had some ///M pedals fitted which I love some days and then think “why did I bother” the next! May be taken off at some point.

I then had the rear roll hoops painted gloss black which makes a huge improvement imo. I also fitted a Wind Deflector as it was missing when I bought the car (had the brackets etc but no wind deflector!).

I’ve always had a thing about getting rid of Chrome so I managed to find a German company selling Gloss Black side repeaters so they were purchased and fitted... Absolutely hated them.

I though a debadge on the side might help... But it didn’t really!

Gloss Black Kidney Grills were the latest addition.

They still haven’t helped the side repeaters IMO and to make them look good I think I’d need Black wheels but I have no intention of doing that so they’re going and I’m currently having the Chrome Side Repeaters sprayed Alpine White.

I’m also awaiting a set of Eibach springs to lower it ever so slightly.

I’m in the process of making a front splitter. There seems to be 2 main options in terms of an off the shelf item but I don’t like either of them.

So I set about making my own. Below is the current template...

That is everything up to date I believe!

Once it’s lowered I will look in to Spacers to push the wheels out slightly.

I’m also looking in to remaps and I’m torn between a proper remap or a piggyback box that can be unplugged etc.

Any how, I welcome your feedback!

You're correct about the remap. @Twin Turbo had his dyno'd at 309bhp. It's an absolute weapon.

He was who I've spoken to on the Z4 forum regarding it! He has the JB4 which I wouldn't need, I'd only need the Stage 1 box. DMS believe they'll get it over 300bhp with no other mods and it'll do 0-60 in under 5 seconds as well as having amazing mid range and scream to the red line.

For now though I'm happy with the performance!

With 300bhp - your near 35is zone - due to 100KG lighter engine -

But your little 2 ltr is a 3.0 killer

Thanks mate! Yes I'd expect to be ahead of a 30i, with a remap I can't see a 35iS being much faster, but then they could add a remap and go a whole lot faster!

For me the 28i was the perfect mix of performance / economy as I do a fair few miles.

My wife's Ford Fusion has a 2ltr turbo and puts out 385HP! So there's room for the 28i to be improved upon. Her car is a screamer or is it just her screaming I'' going to blow up her car??
And then the fight started!! JIM

Looks good - need to see a full front view.

I've been really unhappy with it since fitting the black side repeaters... I hate feeling like I've changed something and messed it up!

I'll clean it and take a load of photos!

What a fantastic looking Z :p

Had my f10 5 series 2.0d remapped a few months back took it from 184bhp to 240bhp doing just short of 60mpg in eco mode put it in sports mode and watch the smile appear and that's from a nearly 2 tone car cheers Tony

Side repeaters look so good in white definitely a good choice

Thank you! I'm so happy with the look / colour scheme now!

I think I'm going to get the central lower bar of the front bumper wrapped in gloss back now.

I've been thinking of doing the same with mine too

Very nice, love those Z4s in white, and I like the white side repeater trims as well

What colour were the roll over hoops before they were painted gloss black? Just textured?

The roll hoops are usually silver! Just looks odd as there's nothing else Silver on the car! I was debating about having the satin black but I like the touch of gloss as it matches the windscreen pillars!
