As preparation for the recent Euro trip, I fitted a set of new discs and pads on the rear (The fronts were changed a month prior) The only disc/pad set available at the time were Eicher brand (it was late on a Saturday p.m.).
Fitting was straight forward - I changed the handbrake shoes and used new fitting kits and anti squeal compounds plus rebuilt the rear callipers at the same time. I also completely bled the brake and clutch hydraulics at the same time.
I carefully run the brakes in and then took off for a 2200 mile tour of Europe. That's when the problem started with rear brake squeal. It's fine for the first 20 or so miles but from then on, the rear brakes squeal dreadfully. I've had them apart more times than I care to remember since returning and tried everything I know plus numerous different anti-squeal potions to try and improve the situation with out success.
The handbrake shoes have been set up, re-set up and then readjusted several times to ensure the noise is not from there (it's not) so I've put the problem down to disc pad compound (too much metallic content in the pad make up?).
So today I've bitten the bullet and bought a new set of Pagid pads which have built in anti-squeal pads and a slightly softer compound which I hope will possibly vanquish the dreaded squeal.
Hopefully this will work. Fingers crossed.
