Hello Dan
I have just fixed mine, The car boot was twerking up and down trying to close.
This will happen to all e89s at some point, and BMW will try and sell you a full very expensive mechanism when it is just not needed

It's an easy and no cost fix

I have sent you all the photos of how I did mine, in a PM.

I would have put it as a sticky but I don't bother anymore, because there are plenty that challenge my own 'actual experience', in favour of other 'experts/guru's' who, let's say, have obviously more 'valued opinions' on here of what is definitely wrong.....

Because of this, I have chosen to adopt the 'my ball' syndrome now... and I can decide who I play with.
those 'experts' can advise otherwise, and if you think 'does he mean me?...... then I probably do..=))
Hi mate,

Same thing has happened to my Z4, its 2:20 in the morning and safe to say I am tired🥲. Hoping you could send me the fix!

Thanks,
Rishan

Hello mate,

Experiencing the same issue with my Z4, soft close won’t engage anymore. Any chance you could send me the photos to help me try and fix it.

Thanks 🙏🏻
Tim

From Z4 Forum.com

Spent a couple of hours addressing this today. First off I checked the boot light connector. 12v present but no continuity to earth - very likely the left-hand soft close loom identified by others on this thread. Stripped the boot lid down, stripped the insulation back and...bingo!

Black wire was broken, green came apart with the lightest of touches, blue was good albeit exposed:

Right-hand loom didn't have any broken wires (yet) but was deteriorating:

Soldered up the left-hand wires, insulated with heat shrink and relooomed with fabric tape:

On the right-hand side I just insulated the exposed wire with electrical tape and reloomed:

Put it all back together, worked a treat

Took a couple of videos from inside the boot of each latch - you can see how the loom moves when the boot opens or closes.

Thank you so much. This was great help.

I’ve dismantled it all, and looks like it’s already had an attempted repair by a previous owner.

I’ve found that the blue wire is completely cut right at the white loom. Any tips on how to fix this, how to get the white loom off to get the remaining wire out?
Thanks

To be honest the Z4 forum is the best place to ask for e89s they have a dedicated area for them and lots of great help and advice from its members.
