All it needs is a well publicised fine of £1000 plus six points and the problem would be solved overnight. Same as most things concerningcrime. Senrences too lenient

Problem being that you can't catch people doing it while sitting in a van looking at computer screens !! Also very difficult to prove and as the current fine is so low it's not worth the police pursuing it.
In Florida it was brought in as an offence 2 years ago, but only as a secondary offence meaning you could only be punished for that if you had been stopped for something else first. It never ceases to amaze me how many people you see on their phones, and by far the worst offenders are female.

Tony.

These people never get caught you see it all the time or worse texting

Very dangerous and infuriating if they are in front of you and being erratic.
Penalty for using the phone should be higher if caught.

The stupid thing is fines are based on the ability to pay - thats no deterrent is it. If you can afford to pay then it won't stop many. Make it hard for people tp pay and then they'll realise its a penalty!

Its about time we could send details, videos and photos to insurance companies so they can properly assess the risks they're taking. Not just with phones but all driving. I suspect they're be inundated.
Another one would be a website to publicise problem drivers tagged using the registration. Its would soon start to hit home if your neighbours and employers start seeing your registration cropping up regularly, especially if its a company car. You'd soon get apps using APNR and warning you of stupid drivers in your immediate locality.

I see this day in day out with the mileage I cover. Now please don't bite my head off ladies when I say this but the high majority of these doosh bags are woman.
They seem to think having the phone on speaker and holding it 2 inches from there mouths classes as hands free.
Another favourite with the ladies is sitting phones on there laps and texting while driving. I'm not saying men don't do these things because they do but I don't see it as often.
Every idiot on the road that thinks it's OK to do these things whilst driving want there licences removing from their persons for good. I see devastating accidents through these mindless acts on a regular basis. Here's one for anyone that thinks it's OK to drive whist pratting around with a phone. If you are of a nervous disposition please don't look at this picture. The driver didn't make it.

Simples don't use it. I don't in the Zed no facilities.
Different story in my other car it has full phone prep even picks up mobile if in the boot all can be controlled via steering wheel.
Even then not a great lover of using the phone whilst driving only used when necessary .
Threat of licence lose will work.

Only shocking people will get many to understand how serious this is. Sadly, photos of the accidents no matter how serious the consequences isn't enough. An evening in A&E or outside the mortuary seeing the daily body count might affect some.
I daily see people tearing around the roads on our estate and frequently using their mobile. The main road is 30mph but every time I walk the dog (several times daily) I see drivers doing in excess of 60. They don't connect with the fact these are the same roads and pavements that their kids use to walk to and from school. If they're so dim, they'll never see the risks elsewhere.
Lets start with 6 points, a £1000 fine and/or your car impounded for six months and enforce it - No second chances. Thats a deterrent.
Oh b***er - We don't have police any more do we?
