Hi all.

Just had new outer sills put on by local garage. Looks okay apart from the front of them where they bend up over the wheel liner. Looks like the guys have bent them slightly back on themselves. Hard to explain and no pic as I’ve told them to fix it. They should be basically 90 degrees from the bottom of the car but these start at 90 then the front edge goes back on itself to about 70. It’s not much but certainly not like my old ones used to look. In the meantime, does anyone have the time to take a good close up of the front of the outer sills on a Z3? Just where they kinda meet with the wheel liners. Wish I’d have taken a pic of mine before hand but they were mostly rust anyway! I want to show the garage what they SHOULD look like. Also slightly worried now if they bend them back, it’ll compromise them. They are very thin so I’m guessing it should be okay. No idea why they’ve done this either?! Thank you all.

Going to ask an obvious question ..but were they wide body sills you bought not the narrrow body ones ?

Sorry got caught on a phone call.

The wing has an inwards angle on it maybe around 120° until it meets the sill where the sill edge angle changes to 90° to rest of it all the way down

Will take a couple of better pics tomorrow in daylight was wet out and dark camera struggling to decide what to focus on.

Stephen.

Thank you, appreciate that. All those bits on my new sills same as yours but need a pic where the sill finishes - similar to your final photo but so you can see the entire end of it at the bottom. Hope that makes sense!!

I’m gonna attach a pic of some paper to try to show the issue. The image where I’ve put the arrow is where the sill is slightly bent back like I’ve tried to copy on the paper. It’s almost like they’ve bent it back getting the wheel liners on maybe? It’s the front by the way.

Thanks again!

Although the new outer sills have been fitted, what were the inner sills like? Did you get a chance to get a look at inner sills after the old outer sill covers were removed? I'm sure the inner sills would have required some refurbishment and corrosion treatment especially around the jacking points.

If nothing else the jacking pads have to be removed so all the surfaces underneath the pad can be cleaned and treated.

Yeah, inner sills were a bit like that but not terrible. All cleaned up and treated. The issue is the bend in the front the sills as I’ve posted above.

Just sitting on the fence here, but do the new sills look wrong? Is it something you could learn to live with?
or foes it just look very wrong?

Not just wrong. They have been bent slightly forward away from the wheel liners so I’m thinking will also catch stones ‘better’. They also have no stone guard paint on these parts. Stone guard paint under the sill but not in the front and back bits next to the wheel liners.

I misunderstood, I thought they were bent backwards towards the liner, not forwards and away from it. Yes, that would look wrong,
