DASC refers to the Downing Atlanta Supercharger that was originally developed for the 318. Downing Atlanta made some changes to fit the M44 in the Z3. It runs the Eaton M62 blower and as it came from Downing, it pushed about 170 HP. Other people have modified it to get up to the 210 HP range at the rear wheels. I have installed some of those modifications on my Z3s. I still am interested in doing others.@Steve F - would be interested in more detail about the supercharger if you are willing?
Downing discontinued production after Eaton stopped producing the M62. The only way to find one today is through the used market, although an unused unit that someone bought and never installed does come up from time to time. There are blower mounting systems available for the M44 from Hyde or GKD.
The GKD kit uses the Eaton M45 from a Mini Cooper S and is a manifold mounted system similar to the DASC that doesn't allow for charge air cooling.
The Hyde kit has a few different options for blower selections and remote mounts to allow for an air to air intercooler.
If I were to do it again, I'd most likely look at one of those two options.
The modifications I have on my DASC system involve a larger MAF, 30# or 34# injectors and deleting the rising rate fuel pressure regulator, a 3.2" pulley on one and relocating the intake temperature sensor to the manifold. Those mods required that the DME be remapped. I've also installed a phenolic spacer between the head and the manifold to lower the manifold temperature.
On the bench is a hope to install charge air cooling using a Laminova intercooler system.
I've never had either car on the dyno, but I hope to soon. Both cars are a blast to drive.
