I haven't started yet,some times it can get a bit mixed up you have to keep your eye on the ball and above all don't say too much be very nonchalant and inocent and never tell a lie ,that will always come back to bite you.its better to say nothing and practice a sort of loveable,miscevious but harmless little boy look. You can actually buy the side pieces and a shorter lid rather than changing the complete centre section which I did on my car. That said it depends on what is available to you at a price that works for you. The swap is mostly labour intensive after you have all your parts. JIM
I can confirm that!!, having just changed my centre storage bin between the seats recently, the whole centre section has to be removed including the roll hoops for a very simple job of removing 2 x screws!!, a real pain, but on the flip side as there are no cheap owners manuals it was a real learning curve to see how your car goes together. One tip, its easier to have the seats removed (don't forget to hide the keys when taking seats out - air bag light). Just take your time and record / know which screw goes where, take plenty of pictures which also helps and it should be fun.

Can you open the centre storage box with those roll hoops fitted
I don't think so, that's why I'm asking if anyone has this type fitted. Comes complete with wind deflector.
I don't normally use the centre storage box anyway.
are they just cosmetic? i like having the real deal, just in case the worst should ever happen

I think you'll find that even BMW doesn't advertise these as roll over protection considering the factory hoops are not a properly fixed protection. But that said, I feel they will add some, protection to a point, in a roll over and are probably better than nothing at all. They are more cosmetic and I'm sure in race track use would not qualify for certification unless utilized as part of a roll cage. JIM
I think that style is purely a "style" modification, but in the event of you rolling your car, they've got to be better than nothing.
You can get a good second hand set of BMW roll hoops complete with plastics and brackets for the price they're asking for those though. In fact I just did the mod myself and got my parts from Spurs fan in a van.
Dead easy to fit, took me a couple of hours and they look great and I know they are proper BMW parts

ive fitted my hoops Jim and would gladly roll the car on them lol they are as solid as be jaysus 
There's a set of OEM BMW roll hoops on ebay now for £275 plus carriage. Sorry, but don't know how to copy the link here
At the end of the day, I don't have anything at the moment, so as you say something is better than nothing.
