S50 progress thread..

Hi David, looks like the pics of the other top offered look good, just calculating whether the pension will cover it this month.
As for the repair, after seeing what you've accomplished which is a friggin miracle to resurrect your car I would trust anyone you recommended to do the repairs. But let's see how everything plays out. Will let you know! JIM

Hi. Wayne I was going to get my top stripped back to glass and painted, albeit it's in good nick, I nearly fell over they wanted around £700-£800 this via Munich Legends

I think I'll concentrate on getting a red soft top :[emoji4]
I hope you are well Wayne [emoji4]

red soft top

I'm saving for a new Green top for mine Ray. BMG gave me the number of a guy who fits tops for BAS International. He is very reasonable on price, including coming to you. Last time I spoke to him he told me was going over to Ireland the following week to fit some, so he does get around.

Tony.

ps. I was hoping to get mine done late spring early summer but it looks like mid summer now.

Hi tony
I did a bit of research and got samples from BAS and other suppliers, BAS were far superior in quality,
Alas I can't remember the price they quoted me,
I would be very interested in the fitting cost
Good luck with your top
I did think about having a weekend away in Wales and getting it fitted by BAS

I'm sure I have it written down somewhere Ray, when I find it I will let you know.

Tony.

im good Ray thanks

had the top fitted today and its still not right..still high on one side....looks like a new bracket is needed....PITA
so more work next week.

on a more serious......i have a air con leak somewhere///takes about a month or even longer to leak out...so i had a guy round to try and find it.
so i jacked the car up and removed the undertray from under the compressor.....and found a little bit of oil in it.....from the vanos..!
looks like one of the O rings has gone....so will be getting them done before anything else gets done.

and he still didn't find the air con leak..!

Most likely the condenser rad Wayne as they are prone to damage from stones.

yeah Ian...how hard to replace / get to..?

Biggest pain with anything AC Wayne is you have to remove all gas from the system before taking any part out. The refridgerant has a very low boiling point and it will boil on contact with skin and burn you very badly. If the gas in your system has a dye in with it (most do) a UV light will show where the leak is.HTH.

Tony.

i wasnt here when he did it...Mandy was taking car of things but i know he did pressurize the system ...so it stands to reason he'd have used dye

He should be able to trace a leak with a UV light then mate, takes the guess work out of it. Sorry to hear the HT is being a pain.

Tony.

well thats what i thought Tony...but he says he cant see it........having said that i suspect its because it takes so long to leak..!
the HT will be fine pal...cheers

I know but Mike wouldn't be Mike if he wasn't. =))

Nice one Ian. As old Frank Carson used to say "That's a cracker"=))

Tony.

Cars booked in for all vanos seals to be done and an oil inspection done.
Hardtop should be finished this weekend...
Seems like I've got the timing wrong this year..!

Darren wood ...and I don't have a price yet...but I'll let you know mozza...it's going to be steep..it's in for 2 days
